Open CPN

Open cpn was working fine and now just shows a black screen with red cross hair but the gps data is shown on the bottom bar.What have i done/not done? Laymans terms for any replies please!

IT sounds like the software is not picking up the charts. go to 'tools' select 'charts and make sure that the locstion of your chart files is selected correctly. I'm no geek But that is where I would start

In tools/charts it says 'installed charts' CM93.

OK but have you unzipped these into the folder Opencpn is looking at? openCPN will not open a zipped file to look for charts.

I have had to uninstall and reinstall OPen CPN twice on my netbook. The last time I had a black screen with the red crosshairs but also a green line outline of the UK as the map when it went pear shaped IIRC.
It's working again now but I did have to prat about with the chart directories to get Open CPN to see them.

All fixed, just reinstalled it without uninstalling and interesting that it shows my track from yesterdays 16 hr sail.

The latest version of OpenCPN contains a decent background map ( not a proper chart ), so the confusing situation with just a black background should not happen. Upgrade to 3.2.2 here -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn/files/opencpn/3.2.2/opencpn_3.2.2_setup.exe/download

Yes, that is right. You can even select what config files to keep. The default is to keep all those files.
The track is a navigation object and is kept in the navobj.xml file(s).
