I am numpty when it comes to electronics, but

I have a QK AO23 which I bought from London Chart Plotters, I have managed to get it to show AIS on the supplied tablet with VMH Raster charts... all is fine on that side. (although I hate the tablet, funny interface and crap battery life )

I also have Open CPN (paid for version and) Navionics charts on my Android phone ( waterproof almost indestructible), these are vectors which I prefer. I have no issue using the built in GPS on the phone to show the position on the charts, but I am not sure how to get the phone to see the AIS overlay from wifi..

before I go and make a mess of the settings in my Phone can anyone confirm that the one AO23 can feed more than one tablet at the same time,

can a phone listen to two wifi signals at the same time?

can my Android phone use wifi to take the ais overlay and use the internal GPS for location, there are instructions on line for using a combined GPS and AIS over wifi. which suggests that Open CPN can only listen to one source of data.

thanks in advance.

Open cpn can listen to many sources of data at one time. If you enable the gps in the phone it shows up in the connections box in Open cpn, well it does in android. Connect phone wifi to the ao23 network. find out the ip address used in the original tablet and put it in the connections tab in ocpn, from a quick read of the aq instructions, it is likely to be 192.168.1.100 port 2000 Also tick the the box show NMEA debug window, then apply, ok.

The NMEA debug window will show the arriving signal, and hopefully if you are in an area AIS signals, those as well.

Hope that helps

Phone cant use two seperate networks at the same time.

I have no knowledge of ao23, but normal devices can talk to a number of devices at the same time but only receive from one.

I have an AO24 which I use to feed a laptop and tablet (both OpenCPN) simultaneously. I believe the AO24 will feed up to 4 devices, not sure about the AO23 but can't see why it would be different.
