One MAN engine fails on last day end last trip of our summer holliday’s

Am I right in understanding that the block is just sitting on a bench, without any engine mount bolts?
If so, not only it sounds, but also looks smooth, even upon starting.

yes indeed, it sits on a rolling frame, without any decent fixing, just a few straps
and there is no smoke, just a bit during cranking
I have to say that when I came there for filming, that the engine had ran for a while,
I didn't see it when the block was cold
I hear a difference in sound compared to what I remember from last season, now its smoother !
some rattling noise is gone, even without the caps over the valves
so all good so far.

and than you have'nt seen swmbo do the yearly teac railcapping maintenance yet,
soft sanding with grain300, and then 2 new layers of Epiphanes glossy woodvarnish, ;)

As you already know, she's a keeper!

Engines sound great - you must be relieved and pleased and impatient all at the same time!

Fingers crossed the install goes well.

Thats a relief, Bart. Just in time for summer!

yes indeed,
its 8 months ago that we sailed with Blue Angel, longest pauze as long we have her 4y now, starting the fifth season.
on monday I have to navigate her on one engine, to the quay for lifting the engine back in (approx 3miles)
how exiting :)

Great news, sounds good, hope everything moves along quickly to get you underway soon. It causes a lot of worry when things like this happen but soon forgotten after a nice cruise.

Congratulations Bart, very well done for making things work again! Although I wasn't expecting for one minute that you wouldn't pull this through. Fingers crossed for successful installation and sea trials. :)

That's fantastic, you'll want to do the other one now though!

yes I want to do that one also completely (new pistons and liners, etc...)
but probably only partially before the season, and finalise next winter
engine is running remember, but that one was consuming much more oil than the first,
and a tiny bit of cooling water (!!??)

A great sound Bart, glad things are moving again.

In the old Princess I used to run, one of the MAN V12's (very similar model to yours) used to use a bit of engine coolant water, just down to a certain, lower than we liked, level in the header tank, it didn't have an expansion tank, it was lower than the opposite engine which ran full to the brim.
It just seemed to want to find that certain operating level, about 30mm below the brim. Of course if the level keeps falling and there's nothing in the bilge space, check the heat exchanger.

If you are manoeuvreing in a tight space or breezy conditions, it might pay to have someone in the RIB strapped alongside (well aft) to act as an auxiliary engine, with a handheld radio, in case you need some stabilising of the stern?
