We've just hauled out and I intend to give the engine a good looking at before we fly home. We'll be back onboard in about six months. I'd like to find out whether I need any parts, and then I can bring them back with me.

One task I've been putting off is inspecting the heat exchanger.
If I drain the coolant and then take the end caps off to access the stack, is it ok to leave it like that for a few months? It's a Yanmar if that makes any difference.
I don't know if I've got enough time to reassemble and refill before we leave.

Likewise for the exhaust elbow... if I can get the bolts out... wish me luck!

Why would it hurt to drain and leave ? Unless salt atmosphere gets in and starts corrosion .... but I would expect enough residual coolant in there to reduce that risk.

Think about all those raw cooled engines left drained ....
