Not fitting in

It’s not that I persist it’s fundamental fact that in Galicia there is little choice in my price bracket

If only one could sail (or even trailer or transport) a boat from somewhere else.

maybe I should review the whole idea of getting a boat🤔

We thought that's what you'd been doing up until now since time immemorial! :D

The one I had was fine. But I am a shorthouse......................................

How tall is Wansworth anyway?
Good question. As he possibly spends most of his time laying on the settee( assuming he did not throw it out in the other thread ) dreaming of boats he never had/will have, the answer is probably " not a lot". So we could load him in lengthways & head room would be more than adequate, on just about anything from a 12 inch pipe upwards.

It’s more important to know the height of Mrs Wansworth.....while he reclines, I expect that she still serves him his nutrients

A time to buy ?

Out of what you say is your price range but the Vancouver 27 is the perfect boat for you, your wife would like it too. If you could find one a 274 would be the tops.

Well, it depends. I think the 27’ Vancouver boats are great, but at 6’2” and 19st they are too small for me, specifically the heads: my shoulders touch either side of the compartment on the 274 and the centrally mounted head in the 27 just jams me between the bulkheads. Lovely boat but not for me. A shame as I’d love one. I’d better stay with my Konsort…

I can’t think of a 27 foot boat with a heads and shower separate forepeak wet hanging locker coolbox / fridge good galley and saloon that would fit you either.😁

It’s much easier to be an average size person to be on a boat. We should put a weight limit plaque on our heads. Probably about 80kg, it’s pretty damn tight in there!

I hate tall people on my boat...you’re always having to warn them...and it’s like it’s your fault every time they smash their head

I'm spoilt with my choice of vessel - Island Packets are noted for their interior volume, storage space and comfort.

As First Mate and I age, it is becoming apparent that our lovely SP Cruiser will have to go for something smaller in a few years.

Sailing her and living aboard is fine, but the required maintenance is becoming a chore. Got the injector pump off at the moment. I hate to think what a Marine Engineer would charge for :- Remove pump and injectors, send for test/overhaul as required, refit and test. 3-5K I imagine. Most would want to fit a new engine at 20K.

It has taken me seven hours so far, and the bits are only at the diesel specialist. The positions I had to twist my body into to remove the unit, the aches afterwards and the arthritic right wrist is giving me severe gip. I have to clean the engine bay, remove each mount in turn, re-paint if re usable, change if defective, paint the water pump, various brackets and the injector pump mountings. All are suffering a little 'pox' from old age. I do like a clean engine...........................

If we have to pay yard bills we cant afford to keep her. DIY makes her affordable but the writing is on the wall. Not all have my skills or experience, so I am in a fortunate position as far as that goes.

Shame, but that is life.

You reading this Wansworth? The reality of boat ownership if used heavily.

Oh - I also have to dismantle the halyard swivel from the Harken furler. It has become tight on all of the foils. I asked on here but no reply from others who have experienced the problem. I suspect it has a plastic liner which has swollen through being hygroscopic.

The joys of sailing...................................................
