Looks like Noah's plight in Cardiff is coming to a head, with eviction notices served, and threats of Imprisonment if the house boat is not moved by friday, final pleas today to the marina owners, then thats it!!! Somehow can't help feeling sorry for him, despite his attitude on this forum a few months back.
Also can't understand why he hasn't got /can't get insurance?? Did that ever get discussed????

I think the underwriters, even third party only guys refused it unless it surveyed. The damage it suffered could have been significant, then add to the the portacabin on top. The next issue was getting it lifted for teh survey. Not sure anyone was willing to do the job especially for a vessel of unknown strength and damage etc.

I think his problems were twofold... First the boat was a dog.. he could have converted it far more sympathetically, secondly I suspect that he might not have gone about winning friends....which you have to do to get along in many marina.

Thing is with marina owners is that they like their places to look nice and expensive.

We have an old Sole bay ketch. Its a utilitarian looking boat, but she's in fair shape. but not a white gleaming awb, but we are improving her ( I sound like Noah here... maybe its time to build an additional shed next to the pilot house?)

Anyway we were refused accomodation at one marina because we failed the beauty contest... must admit, I was pretty mad so I understand how he feels... but still one must abide by teh decision. Course now we have repainted, scrubbed and cleaned and so on, I think we'd be let in, but are nioow happy where we are.

I think Noah is trying to do his boating with the aid of charity and the donation box is lacking in funds.

You'll also have to remember that at the time he arrived at Penarth marina it was a pit in the middle of nowhere.

They've now built one of those soulless marina developments (like Port Solent) and I can imagine that the people who've bought the houses are also applying the pressure.

You are wrong, Penarth Marina development isn't souless it is a village type community not full of yuppies. Noah has just handed in an 800 signature petition to CN mainly from the residents, I can assure you he isn't being evicted because of pressure from residents living around the marina. Everyone that's met him agree he and his familly are genuinely nice people. Very unfortunately the relationship between Noah and CN has broken down over what seems to be surmountable problems. There are no winners in this situation, Noah faces loosing his familly home, CN are loosing the PR war especially here in Wales but it is such pity is has had to come to this. I am sure if Noah's boat conformed to the all your stereotypes of a classis boat, there would be an awful lot more support for him hereabouts. Just shows what a silly situation this is.

Re: Fight

I'm in.

Will join either side as required.

Trouble with the English is that they always have to comment on things without knowing the facts.

My sister, who also lives in Penarth, says that CN have been totally priggish over this and despite Noah's somewhat strange approach to the whole matter says that he has majority support amongst the locals - who allegedly are very proud of their new marina and don't see it as a Sais playground.

Re: Fight

A sad affair all round.

My impression (gleaned only from his postings here) is that he might well have been able to get more support if he hadn't asked disingenuous questions, for which he had a hidden agenda, and then used his interpretation of the replies to support his cause. If that's how he has dealt with CN then I can see why they have got fed up with him, nice guy or no.

I suspect that, in traditional British fashion and having mostly slagged him off on the forum, we will all now rally to the side of the underdog and that there will be a series of "isn't it a pity" type postings, particularly as he is up against a bunch of stereotypically evil, grasping, draconian etc. marina operators; boo, hiss etc.

)

Re: Fight

Agreed.
Apparently his dealings with local 'populace' and 'authority' alllegedly have been of a similar nature. And there is no doubting that some of his recent 'actions' have been 'ill-founded' IMHO. However he has galavanised some support locally and at least we are talking about him!

Cardiff

Used to say Cardiff was only Welsh capital on 2 days a year ( rugby internationals)... also known as ' Little London surrounded by Wales'.

Bit unfair thougfh as now many years since I worked there. May actually have some Welsh there now.

That accent is absolutely unique to Eastern / Southern Cardiff. Must be a history to it somewhere. Like a mixture of Scouse, Durham and the Black Country.

Re: Fight

As I see it. Noahs problem would have arissen sooner or latter, where ever he was. A person with a boat accepts that it is expencive, if he's any sense. A person with a 50 ton boat. Knows it's going to be even more expence when the time comes to lift out and repair. Getting a crane, is only a phone call, as is mending the bottom. It's just a very very expencive phone call, thats all!! Noah is a fool. He should have seen these things coming years and years ago. Just like anyone else who say retires and needs to rebudgit and move to a smaller house, or reduce expences.

Re: Fight

an engine would have given him some more options too
my problem was not his plight per se but his double agenda postings
if he wants our support all he ahd to do waqs aks and place his cards on the table.
