No it wasn't the boatshow. That was its own sweet, predictable self. Stayed in the New Forest - lovely and peaceful and quiet - that was until the all night rave started.
I'll say this, it was well planned - toilets, generators, three D.J. stations, thousands of guests - all it would appear by invitation only. Strange that no locals appeared to have any previous knowledge of it. After all it was only the third one so far! No-one could do a thing - apparently only two police persons were on duty and they weren't braving the situation. Environmental health did call, and issued a notice for next time (at least so local knowledge had it!)
By morning there was a message from the police - they promised they would have the noise stopped by 9a.m. - Great!! Meanwhile the local population + lots of us tourists had been blasted with sound.
Those of us who went exploring (over a barbed wire fence, through a ditch etc) to 'gatecrash' were staggered at the sight - a large number of youngsters stoned out of their minds, even one of us (the younger end of our group - mid 30's) was instantly involved in the offer of drugs despite the fact that we stood out somewhat as strangers at the feast. The rest of our party pretended to be security - it was our own security we were thinking of!
Personally I think I'll stick to sailing. Few experiences could be more unsettling.
Hope everyone else had a great time this weekend.
