New Project

Echoing Brixham Bound its needs a good test run , primarily to test out the VP motors + sterndrives and secondly the quantify the XPS thoroughbred sea keeping first hand . Brathwaite (s) and Don Shead nibble into the muscle boat and performance market back in the day .
S/S ker have gone largely but incrementally in a different direction since .
Still some shadows , murmurings in Poole of a return to performance boats .The legacy of stuff like the XPS lives on . (y) .
Worth restoring it imho .

Agree with others at the dock motionless it sure looks pretty and a job well done the resto .Mr G s gotten good at this now
it shows ,
That’s my plan. Just waiting on a lift pump. Royal Mail 48 ain’t what it used to be!

I was cruising at early/mid 30’s @3000 rpm so quite alot more to go. Just off the chargers at 2600 ish was 27 knots ??

Does require lateral balancing on the tabs for sure as it’s narrow and sharp deadrise. Like trying to balance a knife ??

She needs some longer running for sure?

I had that with a previous boat and fitted an auto tab device from Mente Marine (Make your trim tabs automatic! » Mente Marine) it was bloody brilliant. Fits and connects to where the Bennett tab switches were. Initial set up procedure and then didnt have to touch the tabs again....highly recommended.

Well….I have been thick!

Went out…still the same ?then there was an almighty pop! Scared the crap out of me….revs climbed!

Still didn’t twig but pushed more and more. Got to 3300 and 36 knots but didn’t want to go much more due to conditions and was still worried what the pop was

Spoke to an awesome mechanic (George) who said intake flap unsticking! Both will be removed and de gunked

why didn’t I think of that! ???

Got back….exhaust bellow has come off one end so I’m going swimming. Must have not tightened it enough!?

Still got to fully test up to wot but I think it’s solved!

It’s the Y shaped plastic bit. Got a flap in it that should sit closed to the supercharger below 1500 rpm….then the SC kicks in and shoves the flap open but this shuts it to the air filter box for max boost. Once the SC cuts out…it should flap back so air is being drawn via the air filter again.

With it being stuck….the super charger cut out but the engine was then trying to suck air via a non spinning SC rather than a nice big air filter. It had no hope!

Not quite. If that were the case it would remain closed on turbo too. ie above 1.5k rpm. It's a pressure valve that will only close when the intake is above +ve 1 bar or current atmospheric pressure. Or in other words once and only when the supercharger is engaged to prevent boost being leaked back into the airbox.

More words…same action
