Once again….@Roy851 saved the day. Noticed a missing bolt yesterday!

I didn’t find one that size so been missing for years!

The rain got worse and we trooped on.

they are bolted down on the new mounts and at the shields…starboard batt cables and water inlet pipe connected but that’s it. Tomorrow will hook and tidy everything up but at least they are in……and soaking wet ????

When are you going to start them up?

Really impressed with the work that you've done on these and in such a short time considering you have a full time job as well. Good luck with the restart of them, hope that it all goes smoothly and that they purr just nicely, till you can give them some welly and then they roar.

More progress!

Both engines fully wired up etc…. Starboard…..turn the key…..everything lights up! Result!

Port….nothing ???

Half hour with the voltmeter…..missed the main VE+ for the loom. I was fitting cables blind to that engine.

Now both are giving signs of life! Gave them a quick crank and both span over quickly. No fault codes found either ?The oil filters are empty, as are all the oil lines so I’ll fill the filters with oil and try and get a bit of pressure built with cranking. It‘ll take a good goes to prime the fuel side anyway as that’s all empty too!

im happy with my install now

Also sorted the Plotter issue. Raymarine c70 nmea port was set to 4800….changed it to 38400 and bingo! Many AIS warnings ?? Been a great day today.

1 outdrive only trims one way and the other does nothing but I’ll sort….can’t bring me down today. Fingers crossed for the startup!

looks good, they really should offset the engines a bit more to have more space in the middle (imho!)
silly Q, on these engines all exhaust gasses/seawater goes out through the outdrive? no exhaust pipe as such and flexhose, right?

I’m as suspicious over Mr G’s timeline as you are…he’s reporting as quickly as JOHNPEET even though John’s project was finished before he wrote it up…???

probably a daft question but - you did fill the engines with oil again? All looking very good so far.
yes definitely fill the oil filters 90% with oil and stick them on, the engine oil pressure should rise pretty quick then
bleeding/filling the fuel system is surprisingly quick using the hand lever on the fuel lift pump under the oil filter.
Just remember that if you operate the lever and it feels like nothing is happening, turn the engine over 1/2 a turn and try again. The pump operates on a cam and if the engine stops "on cam" the fuel pump piston is fully up. You may need to try turning the engine a few 1/2 turns to get the good spot when you can feel the fuel being pumped.
Fingers crossed for a good start up.

Engines filled with oil??? I just forgot to pre fill the filters??

All noted….I don’t want it to start too fast??

Exhaust goes out the bottom of the transom shield.

mixing elbow attached to the turbo (new)….through a short hose (new)…..down a metal tube to the transom and out. There is then an exhaust bellow (new) which is underwater and sends it out through the drive

You can see the setup to the left of each transom shield

Forgot to mention…..I left the batt cables…..what I thought to be long. Turns out….not long at all. Damn near perfect! We all need a bit of luck…hope mine holds ??

Incredible work and done quickly and so neat. I replaced an Alternator in an Old Toyota Previa today which I converted into a Camper Van. It was a hell of a difficult Job with terrible access and I was pleased with myself once complete.

Then I looked at this thread................................ I will get my coat

thanks G,

been reading about all these outdrive boats and the need to replace the bellows etc, but never bothered to search for a xray type sketch of how these work.
Nice, I mean scary!!
So boat indeed stays afloat from a rubber bellows and two ss circlips below w/l...
Wouldn't it be safer to have the exhaust exiting the transom ABOVE w/l and then an elbow or whatever dropping the exhaust underwater safely? (guess goes u/w for noise issues)

Good idea and then you could check water flow although it does allow cooling waterflow whilst reversing

Plenty of thru transom exhaust outdrive boats about. Via the leg keeps noise down but also keeps the props in clean water.

Theres more parts that can sink you. Big rubber engine mount donut rings (mine are new), water intake pipe (new clips), shield seal, bellows, exhaust/ shield gasket and steering helmet seal. I think that’s it ???

It doesn't matter if the exhaust bellows fail, because the exhaust pipe is all enclosed and can't sink the boat.

It's the bellows that enclose the prop shaft that will cause issues if they fail.

There's millions of outdrive boats floating out there, I wonder how many sink due to a failure of one of the key seals that are part of the outdrive?

Not many I reckon.,....
