they are bolted down on the new mounts and at the shields…starboard batt cables and water inlet pipe connected but that’s it. Tomorrow will hook and tidy everything up but at least they are in……and soaking wet ????
Next week hopefully….bit tight on time for boat stuff at the moWhen are you going to start them up?
I’m as suspicious over Mr G’s timeline as you are…he’s reporting as quickly as JOHNPEET even though John’s project was finished before he wrote it up…???Really impressed with the work that you've done on these and in such a short time considering you have a full time job as well. Good luck with the restart of them, hope that it all goes smoothly and that they purr just nicely, till you can give them some welly and then they roar.
Engines filled with oil??? I just forgot to pre fill the filters??probably a daft question but - you did fill the engines with oil again? All looking very good so far.
yes definitely fill the oil filters 90% with oil and stick them on, the engine oil pressure should rise pretty quick then
bleeding/filling the fuel system is surprisingly quick using the hand lever on the fuel lift pump under the oil filter.
Just remember that if you operate the lever and it feels like nothing is happening, turn the engine over 1/2 a turn and try again. The pump operates on a cam and if the engine stops "on cam" the fuel pump piston is fully up. You may need to try turning the engine a few 1/2 turns to get the good spot when you can feel the fuel being pumped.
Fingers crossed for a good start up.
Exhaust goes out the bottom of the transom shield.looks good, they really should offset the engines a bit more to have more space in the middle (imho!)
silly Q, on these engines all exhaust gasses/seawater goes out through the outdrive? no exhaust pipe as such and flexhose, right?
thanks G,Exhaust goes out the bottom of the transom shield.
mixing elbow attached to the turbo (new)….through a short hose (new)…..down a metal tube to the transom and out. There is then an exhaust bellow (new) which is underwater and sends it out through the drive
You can see the setup to the left of each transom shield
Good idea and then you could check water flow although it does allow cooling waterflow whilst reversingthanks G,
been reading about all these outdrive boats and the need to replace the bellows etc, but never bothered to search for a xray type sketch of how these work.
Nice, I mean scary!!
So boat indeed stays afloat from a rubber bellows and two ss circlips below w/l...
Wouldn't it be safer to have the exhaust exiting the transom ABOVE w/l and then an elbow or whatever dropping the exhaust underwater safely? (guess goes u/w for noise issues)
Plenty of thru transom exhaust outdrive boats about. Via the leg keeps noise down but also keeps the props in clean water.thanks G,
