that's a good guess - the belt for the crank to water pump is £40 and the supercharger belt is £60!Well the Serpentine belt just went on her indoors Mondeo MK4 and I am gonna replace that. What you are doing is truly remarkable...... Mind you my belt was only £15.11 delivered. I suspect if it were green it would have been £151.10

yes, but I'm sure Volvo will explain that they source their belts from the best fabricator who's using organic rubber and special additives that will withstand the salinity of the air in a mobo engine roomMost belts have what they are marked on them for example mine for the Mondeo was a 6PK1845.... If you can find such a mark you can probably trace the same thing at a fraction of the price as I am sure Volvo don't make belts
nah, old one is fine, use itgot a new alternator…..do I need to change the pulley?
The belt doesn’t bottom out like it does on the original pulley but sits in pretty well. They are the same width at the peaks

Is the outside diameter of the belt when it's on either pulley pretty much the same.? If so the new pulley will work OK.got a new alternator…..do I need to change the pulley?

Sits a bit higher on the pulley…..just like I’ve seen on any other vehicle…..but then the oe one….it sits right in it lower than the perimeter edge. It’s only the alternator so no resistance so I’ll give it a go.Is the outside diameter of the belt when it's on either pulley pretty much the same.? If so the new pulley will work OK.

did another 3 hours this afternoon and I’m going to call this one done.

bit of wiring to do, engine mounts and new clips here and there and a few other odds and sods. Made one cockup….routed the oil filter pipes to wrong side of a bracket. Was thinking I would need to remove the cac again but managed to get around it. I was so annoyed with myself ???
I won’t bother updating much on the other engine as it’ll just be more of the same. Next update will be engine bay!
G,
I guess K asks where the belt sits as that's how the rpm is usually measured. Going further in or out alters the perimeter and alters what the alternator thinks is the current rpm...
However this being an electronically operated engine with an ECU, rpm could be measured internally from the ecu, injector pulses etc. That is bearing in mind I've no idea how this engine works so maybe talking bull and it's a hybrid one with rpm gauge picking it's signal from the alternator...
I call them in as well....batteries are heavy!...the cost of fixing my back would be many times that of a battery installYou should be rightfully proud of the work you have done on that engine. Many other people are too scared to change a battery. They call in the so called professionals

When I was young, people paid for my strong back...it’s the circle of lifeWhat about their Backs
Cheers!
I’ll be proud when they run well with no leaks….until then I’ll be optimistic……after……. I might be regretful and sending them to a professional anyway??
I do think people have to be careful though and I don’t want people to think this is easy. You have to not only read all the workshop manuals but also go back through loads of stuff online and ask people lots of questions for even the most simple jobs. When using a pro all of that shouldn’t be required as you are paying for their expertise.
At the end of the day…..if I had the money….I’d probably send them off to @volvopaul and wait a few months to have them returned as new ??
