New build Sanlorenzo SL96A 2024

Talking of pillows, below is a Sanlorenzo pillow order form. Being a hairyarsed northerner I was tempted just to write "medium, for crying out loud" across the page and send it back. "Tenacious" sounds fun :)

Mr Massive needs to eat some more fray bentos. If he’s massive what am I?

Whilst we may disagree on scatter cushion density I am a massive fan of getting pillows and bed linen / mattress / topper just right. There is nothing that quite beats being cocooned in luxurious comfort in bed at anchor. Some hotels have it nailed, other quite expensive places fail.
Absolutely.
Our main cabin bed is fitted with a mattress topper and I have a special pillow.
Being comfortable is important - at anchor or in the marina.
So, I understand the reason for SL's questions.

I think I’ve said before that I was really surprised when I spent my first night on the F55. The mattress was shockingly good. I’d never heard of Vispring who it transpires are a well established manufacturer in Plymouth. On this project every element is hand selected and researched by JFM but my largely off the shelf approach meant if things weren’t to my liking I would have changed them. As it happens Princess did the hard yards for me.

The problem is you’re always told to stay off the beds at boat shows so how do you know? Toilets and beds are things you know when you’ve taken delivery. Maybe I’ll be brave at Dusseldorf next year and take by pyjamas and a loo roll 😂

Beds are so personal though, what one person loves someone else might hate. We changed all the pillows and duvets on the old P50 after staying in a hotel when visiting a boat show in Plymouth. The bed was really comfy so we stripped it down and got the manufacturer’s details. Turns out as a hotel supplier they were less than half the price of John Lewis - I’m giving away my middle class English roots now 😂

I think the name of the duvet / pillow / topper / linen supplier was Musbury Fabrics.

Many thanks for the kind offer Henri :)

Yup the tender needed smashing about a bit - the factory originally is awful. Williams are good in some ways and have done a great job in cornering the market, but some of their product design is properly 1990s imho and their ability to deliver an order to spec is even worse than that in my actual experience on this occasion. All a bit 6/10. Great the GRP is such an easy material to cut and shut invisibly so it looks factory.

Soft, delicate, tenacious - the whole of humankind is there.

You would be amazed at some of the requirements for "high end" beds - we used to supply wool for mattress filling but we had one manufacturer making a bed with cashmere filling.
Believe it or not, some of the manufacturer's clients would specify white cashmere rather than brown even though it was about three times more expensive and you were never going to see it.

Hmm this must be the bed-end rather than high end then ;)

We made our own matrass (well my wife did the sewing and I did the cutting) this is the first time she has used a sewing machine too. Total cost €99.98 :)

Ref. Henryf's quote re Pyjamas at boat show.
When the Boatshows where held at Earls Court we would regulary see this visitor who always turned up in a life jacket, He would spend considerable time sat at the upper helm of various large Flybridge boats. Quite a distinctive chap with very long wiry ginger hair.
I said to a colleague "Have seen that chap", In a Lancashire accent he replied Aye comes every year it's the only chance he gets to drive um.
The chap turned up for many years and always seemed well received.
Then there was the couple at Excel caught having it away in the forward ensuite of a 62 ft Flybridge by a very prim lady sales person.

I remember that, it was a Fairline!

I'm not sure about 'prim', or even if it was actually a lady sales person, I think that was added later to spice the story up a bit (not that it needed much spicing!).

Also not convinced that, upon being ejected from the stand, the sales person (whether, male, female, prim or otherwise) was heard to say 'Look, when I said you could leave a deposit...', but it all helps to embellish a good tale. 😄

Very nice job (y) . You can teach yourself sewing quite intuitively, as your wife has done there, and as Hurricane has done with his covers. I gotta admit to having a Sailrite myself, and I do odds and ends because DIY sewing is often simpler than all the faff of getting someone in to do it.
Can you feel the foam "spikes"? Maybe it's a nice feeling :) Did you put the foam that way up deliberately?

The spikes you can feel with your hands if you press on the matrass but there is a topper inside the cover that evens it out a lot, you don't feel it laying on it.
After cutting the foam, with an electric carving knife, which made a better job of it than either shears or craft knifes, I was making sure that it would fit before stuffing it into the matrass cover. My wife has also made covers to match the upholstery in the boat and has now made some scatter cushions too.
With the cover on and the infill cushion that runs down the side of cabin + two of the scatter cushions

Nothing has been put back on the boat yet, I'm still cleaning out the diesel from the bilge.

I woz there not only was she prim she was also prime.
Not unusual to get the other type of deposit!

Your first (if I'm not mistaken 🙃) Fairline Squadron 78 has come up for sale in Sweden and still looks very good (link). I've seen it a few times here in Denmark, and it looks just as impressive in person.

Here's the original build thread if anyone's interested - link.

Thanks for that link Roa312. Yes that is indeed my first Squadron 78. It was at London boat show (Excel) in Jan 2011 and delivered to me immediately afterwards, and I ran it for 1.5 seasons then sold to a Swedish guy in July 2012. He ran it for several years based in Sweden, then sold it, still in Sweden, and I guess the 3rd owner is now selling it in the ad you have kindly linked. Looks nice and brings back memories :) Seems slightly over priced (£1.35m GBP vat paid) but good luck to them. Nice to see it so well kept.

Seems slightly over priced.
Interesting to hear you confirming that, because I did wonder, while looking at the ad (being also a non-HT model). But she definitely looks in great shape! (y)
Besides, it wouldn't be fair to compare prices up there with those of the Med, where the offer is (I assume) much larger.
