New boat hints

My uncle in law (is there such a term) has just ordered a 40 foot cruiser with twin diesels etc (no mast and sails!!) and he asked me what I thought he should make sure was included and any hints. I couldn't really help him but thought I'd ask the forum what the ten most important things he should make sure are done/included by the builder. I had a look at it yesterday in Sydney and they were just bonding the deck onto the hull so there is still time to make some changes. It will spend most of its life in and around Sydney Harbour.

As a ragboat freak I wasn't able to help him much but I'm sure you all can so I will forward any suggestions to him, sensible or not!!

Don't worry about beer fridge capacity as this is well and truly taken care of.

Cheers

1. Good size water tank
2. Cupboard space, use every inch / cm whatever
3. Take a good look at canopy, manufacturer rarely get it right and offen get the format wrong.
4. Access to mechanical bits, engine gearboxes batteries
5. Good labels on everything: seacocks, etc what they are.
6. correctly sized cables. especially battery feed. most manufacturers put in undersize cables with no room to expand system.
7. Enetrainment system something straight out of halfords. get a proper ICE system, switchable into areas with remote control.
8. TV aerial rubbish
9. Chart table useable by navigator and helm and can take a chart rather than just a takeaway menu and some loose bits of paper
10. A holding tank level guage which works.

Hope this helps

I have a feeling that holding tanks are now compulsory on Sydney Harbour. If not it sould be!
