I've just received this e-mail:

New Transatlantic Rally

We are contacting you as we feel you may be interested in our new
Transatlantic rally. This new annual event called the 'Christmas Caribbean
Rally' (CCR) sails from Lanzarote to Antigua in December 2013.

The rally will leave from Marina Rubicon, Lanzarote on December 16th 2013
and arrive in the beautiful marina at Jolly Harbour early in the New Year.
Unlike some other transatlantic rallies, the CCR departs later in the season
when the trade winds are likely to be well established and leaves more than
enough time for skippers and crews to make the most of the whole of the
Caribbean sailing season.

The later departure date means that participants will spend the festive
season at sea! This is already proving popular with families and groups of
friends who want to do something 'different' for Christmas next year or who
have limited available time off. You can book and secure a place up to 3
years ahead allowing skippers to plan well in advance.

We are determined that the rally will be good value for money, and we have
secured some great discounts on products and services for all participants.

.. To start with, there is just one entry fee - you don't pay any extra for
your crew!

.. all boats will receive an amazing 8 nights free berthing (5 in Marina
Rubicon, 3 in Jolly Harbour) and should they wish to visit Grenada whilst in
the Caribbean, a further 7 nights free in the beautiful Port Louis marina.
On top of this, there are discounts on longer stays, lift outs, all yard
work and chandlers in both Lanzarote and throughout the Caribbean.

.. We have negotiated discounts with several acclaimed sailing schools where
participants receive reductions on all shore based and practical courses.

.. We have teamed up with online chandlers Marine Store, where all CCR
participants receive discounts on any purchases until the end of the rally.

We even give you a free embroidered shirt for each member of your crew. In
fact, there is so much available, it is likely, many boats will earn their
entry fee back in money they save, before they even start!

There will be a great social and musical side to the rally and we will also
be including events encompassing local interest and culture (for example
vineyards, volcanoes, local flora, fauna and wildlife).

If you like the sound of this and you fancy crossing the Atlantic in a
different way, with different people - and doing something different for
next Christmas & New Year - then please get in touch. All the information
is of course on our website at www.sailingrallies.com

We wish you fair winds for 2013!

God knows why they've chosen Antigua as it is totally unlit; there's a nasty unmarked shoal, the Irish Bank just off the entrance to Jolly Harbour (aka Mosquito Cove). Plus the most disagreeable officials in the Windies.

Isn't this what HoratioHB has already posted about? sorry my IT skills don't extend to pasting a link to his thread.

Possibly. However, this is a new e-mail from the organisers. I am sure YBW can spare the bandwidth.

Anyway, why are you wasting electrons telling people they are wasting electrons? :D

and while I won't be entering Fairwinds next year I thought some on here might be interested.

Was your post really necessary? What exactly is wrong with some of you people?

- W

Nothing wrong with me...............................that a large glass of grog wouldn't sort out :D

Seriously, thanks for posting that info. Another possibility to look at if only for the fun side.

Is that a post telling me I am wasting electrons by telling people they are wasting electrons by posting posts about me wasting electrons?

There is no waste of electrons involved. The only difference between a post and non-post is the data on the server which is communicated to your computer in the form of a combination of 0's and 1's. It doesn't matter what value the bits are, they still require the same number of electronics to be communicated and displayed.

Now suck those eggs, granny ! :)

It's evidently a bad day here on Scuttlebutt. Trying to rival the Lounge for grumpiness? Or maybe New Year SAD has kicked in.

ARC now seems over subscribed, so there's room for another rally for those who like the group therapy ... ... ...

Why do they try telling you that berthing in the marinas is free? That the prep stuff is free? Is this just a really stupid way of saying that it's included in the huge entry fee?

Hmmm . . . true on a conventional hard drive, but not on solid state storage media. A full Kindle actually weighs more than one with no books on it.

More correctly though, useless posts are a waste of energy, not electrons. They heat up wires and server cores unnecessarily, wear out hard disks before their time and use up bandwidth that could be used for better purposes.

So stop wasting energy and suck yer own eggs.
