Hello all

How would I go about exchanging currency. I am talking about 10's of thousands, so not interested in the tourist rates the banks offer.

I know there are some companies that give competative rates. Anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks
Charles

Have a look at this forum, some questions about exchange.

If you are exchanging more than 10K the bank will give you a commercial rate. It is worth shoping around, my bank gave me the same spot rate as the money traders. You have 20 seconds to accept or decline when they contact the dealer. Money arrived next day, to Greece.

I trade currencies for income and would just caution that the spot rate varies a great deal, very quickly. On £10k you could vary by hundreds of pounds in a few seconds, so while you might do better going for a spot price, keep firmly in mind the basic rate they have offered and take the better of the two!

I almost used a company called hifx.
They offer better rates tha most banks and will move the money offshore for you for free.
You need to move more that £5K at a time with them.

It would help quite a lot if this wretched country would decide it must be in Europe - sandwiched between Eire working in Euros and Holland/France also in Euros. I don't know where you liveaboard but life's so much easier for those in the Euro-zone.

I expect to hear the thunder of keyboards defending sovereignty etc etc at this point. But for those of us being ripped off by the banks at both ends each time a Euro customer pays it's frustrating - and quite frankly senseless unless we want to join the dollar. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Rant over.

the strongest economic argument against joining the euro was that it would peg the pound at an unhealthy high level. that no longer applies but not a peep from HMG about joining. could it have something to do with a looming election i wonder?
