Two years ago, as part of a small upgrade I put in a new Raymarine chart plotter and went with the Navionics charting system and liked the features it provided. Also, I installed an AIS transponder that talks via a Raymarine link directly to the plotter overlaying nicely. The transponder has Wi-Fi and talks to my iPad. The chartplotter does not have Wi-Fi.
Last year in May I renewed the subscription at £114.50 and have just received an email asking to renew again this year.
Obviously the facility of updating your charts regularly is very nice and the ‘auto routing dock to dock’ is also quite nice, although I rarely use these, preferring to manually build routes.
Navionics say that without renewal you lose the access to the advanced features Dock to Dock, Overlays, Live location sharing, Plotter sync and…… AIS!

So, can anyone tell me, if I don’t renew this year, is it right that I will not be able to display my AIS information on the Navionics charts on my chartplotter?

I understand that I won’t have access to the electronic chart updates but it seems to me that when you buy paper charts, they’re generally out of date when they hit the chandlers and not many of us update them religiously anyway, meaning a lot of us use old paper charts I corrected for years, before buying new replacement charts and just use common sense.
But I do want the ais overlay on the chartplotter.
Navionics seem to be saying renew your subscription if you want ais displayed! Is that right?
I’ve probably missed something here and hope I have, but it’s a lot of money in the scheme of things, especially since the last two years have been so impacted by covid I’ve hardly used the boat!
£114.50 for chart updates may not be my top consideration but £114.50 to display my ais info on their chart ware could be. Is that right?
Thanks.

I think (and I'm not sure) that the AIS update thing is on the ipone/ipad app.

I think that on a fixed plotter, it's a function of the plotter which deals with the "layers" or overlays (same with the radar overlay).

I may be wrong though.
