I have just bought a 2nd hand WV3 windvane to go with my TP5000 tillerpilot. Unfortunately when I connect the windvane the pilot remains in compass mode whereas it should automatically sense the windvane and steer accordingly. Has anyone got any thoughts as to which piece of kit is faulty? The seller of the WV3 will take it back if faulty so no problem but I don't know how to check if the fault lies with the vane or the pilot.

Are you sure that it switches automatically. I had one for a short while till it died and I'm sure that you had to manually switch it over.

Had a manual till I chucked it last month so cannot check.

Cheers

When the unit is powered up it is in compass standby mode and will work all by itself. When the wind vane is connected, hold down both the port and starboard keys until you hear the beep (about 1 second) indicating it is in wind standby mode. You can switch back to compass mode by repeating the process.

Thanks fredrussell . I didn’t realize it was that old.
I recently bought a 48 yr old Pearson and a Navico TP5000 came with the boat. I was poking around for any info I could find on it and since it appears some survivors are still in use I thought I’d pass a tidbit of knowledge on. There’s so little out there on old outdated toys like the 5000
Cheers!
