Well, having learnt how to post proper photos this post will be the loading.

My boat went back into the water to have her mast removed. No problems with the lift back in, but then the wind blew for 2 days and the mast stayed on. Not the end of the world. Last weekend the wind eased and the mast came off like a dream. Prior planning and prep prevents .... At the same time the marina operators and I took the opportunity to see if my boat with the mast would be under the maximum weight for the crane. She was and so rather than come back out of the water for a week to then be lifted on to the truck we stayed in and would be lifted in one move straight on to the transport on 10 Mar.

Congratulations:)

The place is so beautiful that I thought of passing there when coming from the Eastern Med to the Atlantic but at about 200 euros a day for a 12.5m boat I guess that I will have to pass it:(

I don't know where you got that price from. I have linked the website for BSM les tarifs in one of my first posts. However for 2014 for a 12-14 m boat here the current ask for low season, high season and for a year. Low and high season are per day Class 7 12,01 à 14,00m long 4,50 wide 24,15 (no electricity) 24,65 (with electricity) 48,30 (no elec) 48,80 (with elec) 13 041,00 (annual).

I don't think it is that bad.

My only question so far is why fit air conditioning. After 19 years living on the boat, 10 years in the S of F, I have never found the need for aircon. If you intend to use your boat for any more than day sailing, then you will not be using your aircon at anchor, unless you plan to run a generator. This is not popular in anchorages but there are many who do not care. If you are in a marina you are plugged into 220v and can use one of the many portable aircon units. They are very effective and do not need more holes drilled into the bottom. At anchor you will normally be head to wind and airscoops are a welcome addition. These can be easily made or you might prefer the shop bought fancy versions. If you go further west you will find places the other side of Marseille, where it is cheaper to be out of the water than in. They do not have quite the kudos of Golf Juan or Antibes but they are a hell of a lot cheaper. Have a great time and enjoy.

I haven't decided to fit aircon. It has been suggested and I will think about it. JFM is just providing some advice. I mentioned the idea of going to Antibes, leaning the boat over drilling holes in the bottom, having some cocktails and wait to see what happened when we righted. She replied in a less than enthusiastic manner to most of the idea, less the visit to Antibes and the cocktails.

Hi
I did a similar thing.... I had a Beneteau 36cc in Conwy. I had it trucked down to South of France in 2008, spent that winter looking for somewhere to put it. Realised that marinas weren't like UK... you couldn't just turn up... so one thing was decided: Beaulieu-sur-mer was a clear winner. But I had to buy a berth. Delighted with choice, and now, knowing much more about the area, I'm absolutely certain that Beaulieu was the right choice. It still wins by miles!! And... being close to Nice airport was a big part of where i wanted to have boat. Replaced 36cc with a new Oceanis 41 18 months ago. Love boat... hate totally uninterested dealer! Keep up with the story of the move.
