Hi looking to get my Beneteau Antares 9.8 from Torquay to Gibralter. Best ways to do this. Hubby and I are not that experienced and looks a bit daunting to do it ourself. Its it better to freight her or have someone take it round.

Thanks

Is this permanent? Last I heard was that there's a shortage of berths in Gib. You might bff red ok at 9.8 metres though?

Cross Biscay (with help if necessary) and then hop down the coast. It’s an adventure and the coastal bit down the Spanish Rias and then Portugal etc is great cruising. You can say sail all the way. We did last year.

This is a sub 10m motorboat. IMHO it’s unsuitable for a Biscay crossing. Even if adequate fuel could be provisioned.

The coastal marina-hopping route would certainly work and would be a great adventure if you have the time and stamina for it. By far the easiest and likely the cheapest is to stick it on a truck. Try Coast2Coast for a quote.

Would a trip through the canals of France be a more enjoyable experience than travelling via the Atlantic coast? Leaving aside the tankage/range do you really want to aim for Gib ? Perhaps you have personal reasons for selecting eg airport ,family there etc but just wondered ? Clearly another option is just to sell up and buy something in the Med in a suitable med location? I guess trucking from a French port after a canal trip is another option.

It would be a miserable and arduous trip by sea. Just stick it on a low loader and save all the hassle.
Well not really. It will be a fab summer trip with some great places to pit stop and heaps to learn. Don't get what some people are so worried about.

The Atlantic marinas of France, Spain and Portugal have shedloads of vessels at that size whose owners use them.

Great adventure in my opinion.

Coastal trip, hopping from port to port and taking your time, I agree. Biscay crossing, not so much.

I have done U.K. to northern Spain twice in a similar size boat. We were based n La Rochelle. For some years. It is do able but don’t underestimate the distance. Northern Spain is not even half way. If you have the time it is a lovely trip

Indeed why Gibraltar -having watched the coronation in part from a bar in ocean village the sunshine attracts but as a marina it seemed rather urbanised -I’m sure many love it even if the delights of Tornado or such like taking off in the early hours are unlikely to occur nowadays .
