Motor Boat or Not??

I'm finally coming to the conclusion that I do not have the time to dedicate to a owning a sailing boat. I live in London and have a fairly pressured life and like to make the most of my weekends and free time. This is why I'm leaning towards getting a small motor boat (I've seen an 8m Sea Ray) for trips around the South Coast, ensuring I can get the most out of my time on the water (and visit places further a field than perhaps I could reach sailing).
However, I have no experience of running costs of Motor Boats, can anyone give me some approximate costs and main differences between petrol & diesel?
Many Thanks
JS

Forgetting all other arguements. If you want to cruise round the South Coast and not back and forth to the same marina which happens to have petrol. It must be diesel. Range is another reason. Petrol uses far more so need even more fill ups which arnt there. So options are Petrol and stay put or diesel and go some place.

In order to work out the precise cost of owning a motor boat, first you need to estimate how much you think it'll cost, add 50% then multiply by a factor of 16 (or 17 if it's petrol)

As a rough guide it will cost about 10 to 15% of the boats value.

30 foot boat, value say £40K

£2-3K for a mooring £1500 for fuel and lifting / storage, antifoul and bits. Its a rough number and the fuel part will change with the amount of mileage you do and the type of fuel. Multiply the fuel bit by about 3 if you use petrol reather than diesel.

Good luck

I had an 8m petrol (single engine) boat last season, and kept it in a marina on the South coast.
Marina £2,600
Engine service £275 (Quoted but not confirmed)
Drive service £225 (Ditto)
Lift out/in £200 (Ditto)
Pressure Clean £75 (Ditto)
Antifoul £225 (Ditto)
Insurance £400 on new boat with no NCD
Petrol 40 litres/hour at cruise (27 knots)
Gadgets etc £ As much as SWMBO lets you get away with.

Never had a problem getting petrol, just make sure you fill the tanks before starting any long(ish) journeys.
