Two throttles?
Got to say I have missed that info

We looked through the window, it had two throttles, similar to mine, but just one out drive. So presumably one engine. Twas yer bed partner that looked at the out drive/s so could be wrong. You'll have to ask him whilst you cuddled up.!!!

So we have a boat with an out drive, so no need for sea cocks. It's got a drawer for emptying bog, so no need again for sea cocks. Yet one pipe appears to go to the engine. I cant believe were looking at a four bog boat, which might explain it.

Maybe the out drive link stopped working, so a new one was devised.

The sysems you should have is.

1/ One engine, out drive. One engine control, bit early for power trim and other stuff, so should be basic. So one engine control. The water should flow from te

2/ a bilge pump is a good idea. But should go from bilge to open air IE higher than the water.

3/ So much dont make sence. Less missing Something .

no its not a wind up as i registered under that name but i could not get back in so i registered another account and you will see i have closed that post......as for the twin throttles one is the throttle and the other is the gears...not sure when i can get down again but will take a pic further out and see what can be sorted..but thanks for the info

Sorry for the insinuation of 'sharp' practice, but we do get a lot of 'trouble with Trolls' on here. When I looked through you screen and saw the dual controls Haydn said 'must be a twin', I had a look around the rear and saw the single outdrive and said 'must be seperate throttle and gear'. This is not that common apparently.
Both Haydn's and my boat have one lever which does both. Is the boat American built, I tried to research Invader 22 and got rather confused, as at first I found all these 'raggies' called invader 22 and then I found some MOBO's but they were in America.

she was built in alderley edge cheshire been in contact with the owner of invader boats (reg briscoe) who remenbers building these boats but when he saw mine he said that the engine had been changed from a mercruiser to a perkins and that the front 2 windows were put in later as was the instument panel and he could offer no more info as it was in the 70's when this was built and no records go back that far... just thinking that this is a home made jobby as i cant find any info about her anywhere... as reg briscoe said it could have been gutted and restylesd and i am begining to think he was right but will keep me happy over winter with somthing to do...lol

The black cylinder shown in one of the photographs looks like a macerator pump for the toilet. If it is connected to the y-joint on the seacock then this might be to discharge sewage although this would be antisocial on a canal. Also, with the y-joint there it could pump sewage up the other pipe, wherever that goes.
 
As far as i know its a pump out toilet (if that makes any sense) as on the deck same side as the toilet there is a fuel filler cap and a water filler cap and a raised plastic cap but i cant get to the underside of it (yet) but there is a reinforced plastic pipe coming from the side/bottom of the toilet which goes into the wall paneling near the plastic cap (the toilet has a pedal which you press and a sliding plate which slides across the bottom and it all falls into a tank)... Where both pipes go into from the engine bay thats the back of the toilet/shower room so it could be to do with the toilet might have to take off more paneling to investigate ho hum....Me thinks were getting somewhere now..:D

Normal method for a pump out , or sea toilet is. There is a hand pump by the toilet, this takes water from the canal out of one sea cock, then flushes the waste down a much bigger pipe and out to the sea/canal. A posher way is, the waste goes into a holding tank, then it can either be pumped out at a pump out station, else if on the sea, it can be pumped out the bottom, when away from the shore. But your pipes look far to small for waste and also why would it go into a Y fitting where it could go up the other pipe.

There are now electric toilets, but mainly just on newish big posh boats.

You may also have a cassette toilet, which is most likely, especially as you mention a door. This is sort of bucket and chuck it method, no pipes or electric involved.

The water filler on deck will be for the sink, this also will be operated by a manual pump on older smallish boats. If your lucky it may be a pressurized system, where the pump keeps the pressure up till required, else you could have a switch by the sink to switch the pump on when you want water.
 
A ha now theres something i know the sink has a dial/tap which starts the water.. at first when i tried it it didn't work but with swopping the fuses about (half of them are missing or the caps are broke on the holders) the water flowed so i know the sink has an electric pump and thinking about it there is a small aquaflow pump near to where the chain locker is (it looks just like the one in the photo) so i am wondering if the one in the photo is somthing to do with the toilet flushing but i dont know as i v'e not used the toilet only pressed the pedal on the front and all that did was to open a sliding round door over what looked like a tank .. next time i go down i will try and find the switch/fuse and see if i can get it to make a noise
 
Would one pipe be for a sea-water supply to the sink, not so uncommon in years gone by, for washing up saving fresh water, then possibly one for a deck-wash supply, possibly macerator to pump out the holding tank overside if no pump-out available, doubling for deck-wash? The small pipe going to the top of the strainer cap is defo a non-standard bodge-up, you'd have to remove it to get at the strainer if it picked up crud, it could be for a sea-water tap in the galley as water is at least strained before it gets there. The main strainer/sea-cock I'd expect to be for engine cooling.

The mind boggles!

Twin lever controls for single engine not so uncommon either, I had a Norman 20 I fitted twin top-mounted levers to, looked flashy at the time, except that the levers never lined up in use, one controlling the throttle and one the Enfield and going in opposite directions.

I'm going to take a wild guess. As some one said that that out drive, did not draw or return water to the out drive. We also know it's been re engined.

So Mr Garstang, is there an exhaust at the back of the boat, where both water and exhaust gas comes out when the engine is running??

If not, maybe water goes into the engine from one sea cock, then out through the other and that sea cock is also used by a bilge pump.

Has the engine got a header tank with a radiator type cap??

However it works, it's quite wrong and may cause the engine to over heat. Even if not, any fault in those suspect pipes and fitting, may well sink you.
 
yes there is smoke and water pumped out of the back and its got a header tank with anti-freeze in (i know this as i dipped my finger in and tasted for sweetness) but next time i am down i will try to run the water in the galley sink and in the back cabin and also trace the green pipe as things are being sugested that i am thinking that the sea cock with the green and the black/yellow stripe are for the sinks to save fresh water and the other seacock is for the toilet in some way be it flush or pumpout as i know on the opposite side of the engine ther is another seacock which goes to the engine so thats sorted....amazing how just little bits of info start to make sense ..thanks to all for the info to date....
 
Right, so at least the engine seems conventional. How it works is. You have an enclosed system, with antifreeze in. Then a heat exchanger. Water is pumped from a sea cock to the heat exchanger, which cools the internal water, then out through the exhaust.

You have two holes/ drains in the starboard side, these should be the drains for sinks etc. Try emptying sinks and look where the water goes. also try pumping water to the sinks and listen for which pump is running.

I dont think water will be being pumped out of the canal to the sinks. If it is, it wants stopping. The only places it should be going is engine and possibly toilet.
 
its looking like its got a system for being at sea and dumping the toilet waste overboard via one of the seacocks but i ain't going to take off a pipe to confirm this.lol... i know that the galley sink drains out at the side of the boat as water from the sink after the plug was pulled ran out of side next to the fender in pic of boat and the other hole in the side may be for the shower drainage but not tried the shower yet as its in the same cupboard/room as the toilet which you have to sit on the toilet to shower its that small a room...so its looking like i just have to find out what the first seacock does and going of replies it could be either sea water to the sinks or to the toilet flush just to save fresh water or both..will have to trace the wiring to a switch and check the fuses as on the panel i have switched them all on and half work the other half have no fuses or broken caps (which i have got some on order)
 
Your switches are just two standard banks, maybe just to impress or cover a hole behind. Take the pannel off and look behind, many of them will not have wires to them, so take the fuses out of them and use for others. Can you not buy new fuses??
 
Have taken the panels off and there all wired to somthing or other but most of the fuse holder caps are broke and have to swop them about at the mo but i have some on order just waiting for them to come.. I have put fuses in most of them and got the lights, air extractors,sink,wipers and running lights working cant see much of a problem with them if they dont do anything with a fuse in i can use for spares but the way things are on here every switch willdo something as i have not found the search light switch or the 2 spots at the front switch and a couple of other things but they could be on the board with broken caps/fuse if not i will rewire them....but the biggest job i have is painting the deck as it is worn in places at the front and needs doing but that might just get a couple of coats of blakes multicoat for the time being
