My employer is dragging me kicking and screaming away from Cornwall (and I can't afford to quit!) so I am on the lookout for a mooring in the Solent area. Any steers towards a swinging mooring for a 36ft long-keeled boat drawing 5' 8" would be very much appreciated. I've tried the obvious boatyards and harbourmasters but nothing more positive than a "maybe" so far. Our only other needs are car parking and preferably somehere to keep a hard dinghy. Anywhere between Chichester and Poole would be considered. Anybody got a private mooring that they're not using this season? Thanks for your thoughts.

That's some draft and I doubt you'd find anything available in Chichester Hbr. (Would have to be Itchenor Reach, I think, and they have long waiting lists).

Parking is a real problem on swinging moorings around here, unless you are in a yacht club with parking facillities or pay a Marina..

Langstone harbour has some deep water moorings and is probably a less popular spot than Chichester so maybe you would have more luck there http://www.langstoneharbour.org.uk/. There's not too much to see inside Langstone but is an OK place to keep a boat

Also Gosport Boatyard in Portsmouth harbour would be worth a try - some of the moorings are in quite remote parts of the harbour but they have a watertaxi service included in the price. They had some moorings in the middle of last season so they might well be able to find you something.

The following have deep water swinging moorings in Poole:-

Ray Sanders (used to own Anvil Yachts) - tel 01202 741637

Prices Moorings - 01202 670113

Mitchells Boatyard - 01202 747857

Price Moorings have several locations around the harbour and have 96 moorings in deep water.

Mitchells Boatyard have lots of shallow or drying moorings but do have a few in deep water on the North Channel by Parkstone Lake

Salterns Marina also have a few off their marina, but these are likely to be expensive though although they have a launch service.

Try Chichester Harbour Master. I tried for a mooring in Itchenor but couldn't get one but I got a letter saying there were vacancies in Emsworth Channel.
