Hi there,

My volvo penta 2001 had a Martec fresh water cooling system installed by a previous owner. It has been leaking for a while, I think from the bottom gasket of the heat exchanger. The good news is that the engine is like new inside the cooling channels having had fresh water and antifreeze sloshing round it since new, I think.

But there was no way I could fix the leak without taking the engine out as the exchanger and miles of hose was behind the engine. So, I decided to convert back to the original raw water cooling. I was able to just cut hoses and pull everything out. Simpler, the engine will run cooler, not reliant on an electric pump and a lot less hoses to worry about springing a leak. The downside of scaling up is likely to be years down the path and i can chuck descaler and antifreeze down my newly installed strainer each winter anyway.

My question is should I just bin the exchanger, electric pump and header tank or is it likely to have a value? I can't see any on ebay to judge from and the garage is full of junk anyway.

Hi.

I'd be interested in them for a wee project to experiment with. They still available?
