I'm looking for a Visitors Marina berth fro BH weekend.

Dolphins Quay is fully booked,
Cobbs Quay is the wrong side of the bridge,
Town Quay not suitable (need to off-load some stuff from the boat and climbing over rafted boats will not work)
Anchoring and mooring not suitable for same reason as above
Parkstone looks a possibility but not sure about availability

Any others?

Ring Parkstone on 01202 738824 in office hours which is the marina office (you must them call first), they will almost certainly find you a spot if enough members like us are off elsewhere.

Re-reading my reply above...... the 2 sentences are completely separate! I have used a berth at Parkstone, they are very friendly and obliging. But I'm still very glad I sail on the E.Coast!

Having visited to Parkestone on several occasions I have always found the berthing team to be both friendly and helpful. Last time we visited we were pursuaded to sample the club house carvery, which was excellent in quality and value. Unfortunately, we all sensed an invisible force field around the bar area, as though several members felt it to be solely their preserve and not open to visiting riffraff. Shame, because it has spoilt a great impression of the club and we have used Dolphin Quay ever since.

The bar on a Saturday night is probably the home of the greater spotted bustards, Starboard Sam and his Portner Penny who have spent their day yelling at each other round the race course and at all who sail or motor in Poole. Being cruisy boat types we are long gone on weekends, though maybe getting the chilly treatment from another club's bar barricades! Come to think of it we did have something similar at Royal Lymington!

Hi Nick

We have done that occasionally and yes it is a very friendly club. The last time we went into RLYC (with some friends who specifically wanted to go there) we were interrogated before we had even reached the bar by someone as to whether we were members of a reciprocal club (we are) and had signed in properly (we had). The food, which was why our friends wanted to go there, was mediocre and luke warm. We haven't bothered since.

Actually mostly we eat on board these days in Lymington because everywhere is so crowded, the bar is cheaper on board too!

Try Poole Yacht Club. 01202 672687 or 01202 680202. We take visiting boats up to 11m. I'm sure they'll do their best to squeeze you in. It's by the ferry terminal. Also excellent bar and restaurant.
