My P32 is being lifted this week and one of the jobs for the high and dry period is to overhaul the sea toilet sea cocks which look as if they may not have been opened and/or closed for a very long time!
As I am based on the non tidal Thames I have decided to remove the sea toilet in favour of a Porta Potti. Cant use the damned thing without a holding tank and cant see much point in spending several hundred quid on a holding tank just so's I can then carry on paying out more dosh every time it needs emptying. Decision to go Porta Potti is not negotiable (unless of course someone can convince me they know better) but the question is.......................
Do I overhaul seacocks and leave in situ (sealed off of course) in case one day decide sea toilets return is a good idea or do I remove altogether and blank off holes in hull permanently?
Oh...and before anyone else says it... I know its likely to be a slightly sh*tty job..............

If you can get at the seacock themselves i'd leavem in, and turn on/off every month or so (yeah, with pipe attached to avoid sploosh water). But sounds as tho you can't get attem? If so, umm I might sealem off, but then worry about the holes at night. Can you get a decent plug, a dead end with no valve? or will you actually blank the holes? The porta pot things quite be really whiffy - the chemicals rather than anything else.

I had a porta potti in my last caravan - it was OK
A friend of mine tripped as he came out of the Caravan and dropped it in the awning. It smashed open sending the contents over the inside of the awning and all over his wife who was sunning herslf in a lounger. It took ages to clear up the mess.
Most caravans have a door in the outside to putt them out now - my van does. so the chances of interior splilling are limited....
However in a Boat ...... getting it from the place in the loo and back with out making a mess is indeed an ART.

PortaPotti 165s used on on my previous boats for over 15 years without a moments problem. Best emptied before being full to avoid drips when taking the chamber from boat to where-ever.
As regards the pipework, without a shadow of doubt leave them in, grease them up good and forget about them except for say a 6 monthly check. You never know what the next owner intends doing and the fact the fittings are there can be a selling poiint.
