I went yesterday - enjoyed it. Bavaria, Jeanneau. Hanse, Dehler and Beneteau all having sail boats on display. Plus lots of chandlery stores, and charter companies. A good 3 to 6 hours easily spent, each to their own!

These are all reasonable boats but by their very banality do not inspire the stuff of dreams.

I arrived about 10.30 after hauling myself on the 06.41 from Exeter! The rail fare was eye watering expensive. The place was deserted which meant stall holders had time to talk to me.

As I was not going to spend cash I was able to talk to stall holders about some upgrades I am considering in a few years. All in all a good day out, had I been looking to buy stuff I would have been bitterly disappointed.

I did have a rather comical discussion about the cost of ownership with one stand as by their calculations it was about £35,000 per year. Well over ten times my annual running costs.

Got free ticket and booked my travel prior to the solstice and am beginning to regret it. Surely there must be something - there is a Guinness bar isn't there? - to amuse. I suppose if nothing else I can reinforce my prejudices against AWBs.

Going to a boat show to see the latest Bavaria is like going to a motor show to see the latest Mondeo.

I did exactly that at the NEC about 15 years ago .... and bought a new Mk 1! After that I bought a new Mercedes E-Class ...... but that was crap so I bought another new Mondeo Mk 3. After a few excellent years I sold that and bought a new Mk 4 which has now done 100k miles. I might sell it if I ever need to spend any money on it. I wonder what I'll buy? ;)

That stall claimed £29000 pa to run a 34' based on £8K mooring £7K finance £6K depreciation......!
It didnt show their expectations for my 25' but my real costs wipe a lot of zeroes off those claims

Nearby was a stand selling "everyday" wine at a bargain £19 a bottle.

Another world.

Why £27?
There are so many ways, I used one of many promo code via my own small sailing club & got two tickets for £12 by return of email on Tuesday using a BOGOF deal. Tesco points apparently buy them cheap too. Its certainly not worth the face ticket price.
I go there once every 6/7 years, and each time I decide its not worth it except as a day out, I always go to Southampton, which is a far better day. LIBS is now confined to only one hall.

Yes i have to say that i regret selling my mark 3 mondeo estate for £200 a few years ago.

Now have a work brand new merc e class estate that for some reason i don't really like.

I have told the kids not to get used to it as when I retire i will be looking for a low mileage mk 3 estate....!

I think we should have a sticky thread for the London boat show. This thread is like groundhog year.....

I assume all involved make enough money otherwise they wouldn't do it.

Its a bit like going to tesco metro and complaining about the range.

Its a small boat show in January.

I got a free ticket from the rya.

It wasn't as good as Paris where i went a few months ago and i am also sure Southampton and dusseldorf are much better.

Actually the only thing that might up its game is that crossrail will be open either next year or the year after which means access from West London will be much easier.

If you were after looking at motorboats there seemed to be plenty.

Of course it's entirely possible to go to a motor show in order to see Mondeos, but I suspect that most visitors - including those who plan to buy Mondeos - would like to see more, um, extravagant things as well. Same with boat shows; it certainly makes sense for Bavaria to be there but a show which was all anonymous mass produced stuff would be a bit boring.

I'm assuming that many involved don't make enough money otherwise they would come back.

Been there this morning. Sailed 400 miles from Falmouth to get there so it wasn't all in vain. Pretty rubbish in terms of sailing boats. Managed to pick up a pair of Steiner bins at almost half price so that was a result

Sure. But my point is that us still going. And every year everyone on here moans about it but I think it has been roughly the same for the last few years. In fact i thought it might have been one section longer this year.

Jeanneau had a sunfast 3200 r2 there which wasn't at paris.

Yes but not everyone wants a well egineered product at a competitive price that performs very well:D

Went on Thursday on freebee ticket. Several of the AWB manufacturers were showing both sail & semi-displacement/trawler motor on their stands. It seems a surprising number of those 'of a certain age' (aka babyboomers with fat pensions) are moving to The Dark Side  Having looked around a couple of mobos (the sailing friend I was with is interested in 'moving') I have to admit I was not unimpressed.

Joanna Lumley sounded delicious, as always, and I did enjoy the antics of the walking, talking, singing 7-foot Transformer Robot beside the Guinness stand.
