Wel in defence of Learner, I really think you're a bit out of order here Tone.
The poor man obviously wants to buy a boat and just because he doesn't jump in and buy the first one he sees and possibly make an expensive mistake and end up poor and unhappy, you're having a go at him. It's obvious to me from his various postings that professionally he works in something boring like accountancy (or snooker) and is therefore used to weighing up all the pros and cons and analysing details to the nth degree. Nowt wrong with that Tone, just 'cos you're an impetous old seafarer who's forgotten more than most of us (well OK to be be more specific Learner and me) will ever know, doesn''t make him (or me) a bad person.
Maybe he is, in your view, a bit of a prat and being overly cautious, but I'm sure you'd be equally critical of someone who just went out and bought the first boat they saw just 'cos they could.
Maybe after all his analyses, his choice of boat, (which in my view is the secondhand car salesman's dream), a Sunseeker, isn't your cup of cocoa, but each to his own.
No I think you're being a bit hard on him to pick a boat for him and then have a go at im if he don't buy it. Even though it looks as if it would admirably suit him.
Personally I think Leaner's doing a sterling job detailing his exploits here and all credit to him for revealing the details of every boat, broker, dealer and shyster surveyor he's had the misfortune to come into contact with over the past 6 or 9 months.
Just glad that I'm not trying to sell him something, I bet he'll be a real bastard to sell to. Every i would have to be dottedd and t crossed before he'll open his purse and fork out the cash and would then be forever coming back complaining about this not being right and that being broken or not working, but that';s his right, as the guy paying out the dosh, to get the best deal he can for himself. And I don't think it's right or fair for you to criticise that Tone.
This is of couse all IMHO. And with tongue placed firmly in cheek.
OK...so now you know it works....can you pot off and do it somewhere else...?
Incidentally, wot exactly are you trying to say or is that too much to cope with....?
One or two here - including Learner himself - seem to have not read my original post carefully enough.......nothings changed there , then !
I was proposing that we, the long suffering observers of the Learnerboutaboatin24 months saga, should actually buy the boat for him..........so's he can get on with things a bit. He can still keep looking for summink he fancies himself (tho as u say his taste so far seems a bit suspect to say the least).
No, sorry, dont think I'm being unfair at all.....in fact I think I was being exceedingly kind proposing that we push him in to getting on with it at our (admittedly miniscule) expense.
No, I think he's being quite ungracious and I'm surprised at you for defending him.....not at all in tune with our discussions tthat evening in Viareggio..................
Oh and alright, I've got a half crown I'll bung in, so that gets the ball rolling.
Oh and a fifty Franc note, 124 pesetas, 4.50 German Marks and a few indeterminate Greek coins. ANd some Finnish Marks too, but they're even more indecipherable. So you're welcome to that lot if it'll all help.
I think Tony is right to offer to buy a boat for Learner. As he said the cost is to be divided up by the number of people who offer to pay - I congratulate Tony for being the only one to stand up and be counted and hence will have to pay 100% of the cost (not having anyone else to divide it with).
p.s. Where was the offer to BUY my boat for me when I was ummmming and arhhhhing earlier this year !!!!
/forums/images/icons/wink.gif/forums/images/icons/wink.gifed person. !!!!!!

All facts accepted and known /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.......felt more important to castigate the evil **B for picking on newbie . So No diversions, you are the only one to c it /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
Also B1 should but boats for u , me and Cutysqualid ( who is also without boat) AND about 30% of other posting hereabouts....
wot did he delete.....quick, tell me, I NEED to know.........is he playing dirty tricks now trying to get a sympathy vote...?
Sorry Sandra, all I can say is you didnt make enough fuss aboiut getting a boat before you actually got one. Lets face it, Learners got more posts on this forum than you and youve been boating all this season........
And to cap it all he seeems to think we should be all lovey dovey with him cos he thinks he's still a newbie.............
No use him calling Kim for help either......heard on the grapevine that IPC are considering serialising the Learner saga as 'How not to go about buying a boat'..........
aaah...there speaks the man who has brought me light where there was misty darkness......a man who has given me turnbuckles instead of press studs.......a man who......calls my dog 'bogbrush....!!!!!
