Another vote for Emsworth yacht harbour

For about 5 years I used to lay my boat up for the winter in Emsworth Yacht Harbour and it was fine. Usually able to park next to the boat and friendly, helpful staff. Also it's in a pleasant location so if you get fed up of working on the boat there are pleasant walks nearby and a good selection of pubs and places to eat in the nearby village.

True there are some tidal constraints but as you will only be coming in and out once a year it's easy to choose suitable dates.

That sounds very similar to the experience that I have with my sailing club - which is another option for laying up surely? Join a sailing club and use their lay up facilities?

As an example, I'm not aware that my club has a waiting list, and membership with winter layup (Langstone Sailing Club next to Hayling Bridge so handy for A3(M) and M27) would cost around 300 or 400 squid with a lift out and in as part of the winter lay up... extra if you needed a summer mooring, but that presumably would not be required......

Right, last night I was able to redesign the spreadsheet into something that might just work for everyone (but there is still no guarantee it's 100% correct and some fields will still have to be improvised, such is the nature of everyone pricing things differently:) )

It's an Excel spreadsheet, I'm not an Excel expert so it's a bit rough around the edges :D

The entry form looks a little like this:

And at the end of it you get an overview a bit like this:

If anyone wants a copy of the blank one to do their own calculations with PM me with your Email address - which won't be passed on to anyone or kept on a secret squirrel database. All I ask is that you Email any completed forms back to me so I can add it to my data base, but you don't have to :)

Or if you want a copy of the east Solent one shown above also PM me with your Email address.

Still not getting it Snooks... :D

Even with your cheapest offering, I could have membership and onshore storage for the entire winter at my sailing club - with lift outs - for less than a month and a half in the marina......

Power and water available - cracking beer in the club bar - pub with food right across the road... :p

That's the rub with the club thing, out and back in on one date, weekend before spent scrubbing off and removing the mast, weekend after spent re stepping. OK if you have the time or want to be tied to set dates.

Do lift outs have to be on a certain date?

(and rickym) I understand the concern, and I'm only (half) joshing.... :)

Our club owns it's own lift (10T jobbie) & we do indeed get a free lift out and lift in on the designated weekends - but you can also have a personal lift in/out at any time you like for about £30 or £40 I think...

I think the point I'm trying to make (badly) is that a sailing club membership - even if temporary - is a valid alternative to a marina. Being a club the costs/overheads are bound to be cheaper, and who knows - you might meet a nice bunch of people and decide to stay - I'm not a club'able bloke but the one's in my club are OK.. :D
