The starter motor on my 3 cylinder Kubota has been giving me some grief. The starter motor will start after the solenoid has been given a bit of a tap. My mate pulled the magnetic switch to the solenoid apart and cleaned and checked it, however when testing with the end cap off, the solenoid will only activate if the sliding bit is given a bit of a nudge. His suggestion is that a spacer may be needed in the end cap to give it a bit of a start. Goes this sound reasonable?

A new solenoid is not at all expensive. You can probably get one at a car parts shop.Years ago I got one for a really old yanmar at a parts shop in Macau .It was pretty standard stuff and it was very cheap.

Unfortunately the Kubota I have does not have the car type solenoid mounted on the side of the starter motor. The solenoid is built in to the starter and is quite a bit larger than the car type. With the cap removed on the end of the solenoid , the electrical contacts are easily cleaned. The sliding "switch" is also in perfect condition. The problem is it needs some bias to get it moving, a gentle nudge. Its Monday here now so its off to a auto electrician. Thanks for the help. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
