As the red diesel issue is going to run and is very important to a lot of people on here, and the other forums as well, why don't you start a seperate "special" forum for this issue. There are several pluses:

By doing this you will be able to "pool" contributions from the various forums which will assist anyone who is trying to champion the cause.

If enough people post it will highlight the strength of feeling amongst boatowners and support the RYA's actions

It will also keep the general forums free of this topic, it seems that every other post at the moment is from a concerned boater who has just become aware of the issue and wants to bring it to the attention of all others who have already been discussing it for the past few week but their thread had now disappered from current view

I suggested this in a previous thread but you didn't pick it up then but it still seems like a good idea to me

Why? Its probably the most important issue for motorboaters at the moment and of concern to a great number of people. Personally, I'm a bit fed up with it but its apparent that other people are not so let them have their say. And I'm sure there are plenty of people who dip in and out of the forum who dont catch some of the posts. A number of threads dont particularly interest me so, once I realise what the content is, I dont bother carrying on. If the issue is farmed off to another forum, nobody's going to contribute and, if something truly enlightening comes along, most of us are going to miss it

Not wanting to supress peoples feelings on this, on the contrary I thought if everyone (from the various YBW forums) posted to the same forum it would more clearly show the depth of feeling rather than these views be diluted across several forums or posts on different periods.

Just trying to get everyone to pull together thats all.

It is an issue for motorboaters mostly, granted. My fuel consumption last year was probably similar to a fair few of MOBO daily consumption. But I will stand and fight for our right to use red diesel regardless. I regularly am 12 miles off shore, so why should I pay any tax, why should I pay a road levvy on the coast.

Although, if it really comes down to it, I will buy heating oil, to run my eber, it will just appear to be on all the time !

If my Nelson was a car she would qualify as Exempt for Road Tax purposes - built in 1969 - I think I should be exempt of any more fuel taxes, especially since she drinks 10gals / hour at 15knots.

I tried to send a fax to my MP using faxyourmp but it bounced and recommended snail mail. My MP is Oliver Letwin, Shadow Chancellor. I can't say his lot inspire me anymore than the current lot but may be he will take up the cudgel as any route to get at the incumbent chancellor.

I will send the letter in the post.

If they do pile on the duty on red diesel, there might be an alternative.

The National Farmer's Union are lobbying for a reduction in bio-diesel duty to the same level as that of LPG.

Makes good sense to me -- biodisel is 100% carbon neutral -- you only release CO2 back to the air that the rape seed (or whatever) consumed while growing -- in fact the net change in CO2 for the atmosphere is a reduction as a lot of carbon will be held in fuel tanks, reserves etc.

IGiven the governments record on taxes and wringing the last drops of blood from us, the idiots that let them remain in power, I expect red diesel will go the way of the dodo, but bio diesel, for all its environmental and economic benefits (it will give farmers a new cash crop) will remain as heavily taxed as any fossil fuel

I remain convinced that once LPG acquires a suitable critical mass o road users, boaters don't count here, it will be taxed pretty much as vigorously as petrol.

I wonder how much fuel is bought and paid for by ministers, out of their own, quite well lined, pockets.

Bio - diesel is easy to make all you need is some cooking oil and some etha, we did it at work.

I agree and you can't colour gas to show its "Road" or "off road"
