hi

i am asking for help to find out a little more about a kestrel 22 (with wood carvel hull) that was built in 1963. the yacht is called blue belle, and was raced a lot around the bristol channel area (very successfully) in the mid to late sixties. also, could anyone tell me who manufactured the boat and where i can source infomation r/e simple checks to the hull. the keel appears degraded and rotten in places, has anyone replaced one of these? and what timber etc was used. all help would be gratefully welcomed

Ive done it on an Itchen ferry. Its a little scary. Think about it long and hard before you undertake the job. Ive got some photies somewhere, if you want I can email them to you.

Iroko is a good wood to use. its quite stable, easy to obtain and the bugs dont like to eat it. On the other hand its blunts tools very quickly and the sawdust is not pleasant.
