Jamaica / Haiti

My girlfriend is going to crew on a yacht in this area (what's wrong with the Bristol channel I ask /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) - just after any comments / points (hopefully reassurance!) that I will see them again !

Perhaps I've been reading too many web sites that label this area and Haiti in paticular as the crime capital of the world or only one step down from sailing near Somalia

Would appreciate any info stories (all good I hope) or places to avoid etc.

Don't go to Haiti. I spent three months in the Dominican Republic (next door to Haiti) and all the first hand accounts I heard were "Don't go there".
I probably wouldn't go to Jamaica either, although I know someone who went there a couple of months ago (by plane), left the compound he was staying in, and didn't get mugged!
