Does any one have a boat with a 4cyl Iveco/AIFO Diesel Engine in their boat. I want to do a modification to my engine by fitting a later Iveco part and it is a cheaper alternative.

Hi Volvo Paul,

you might be able to help with a couple of problems I have in that case! I don't seem to be able to locate anything in the manual that would give me an indication of the location of the sacrificial anode on the engine.

Also we seem to be running a little cold so I am considering removing the thermostat to test, any tips with this, I believe it is located somewhere in-between the heat exchanger and exhaust manifold!!!???

Otherwise is there anything to look for with these engines - It has been extremely reliable since we bought the boat 4 years ago!

Running Cold. I thought this but as the majority of the boats withe these engines are used in the Mediterranean perhaps they have a thermostat with a different heat range.

Anything to look out for? In the last 4 years have you tried to have a new Cam Belt fitted and did you get a Cam Belt Kit (with roller bearings) like you can buy for a van.
I also had problems with starting, new injectors did not fix it, but new Glow Plugs did and off the Internet, dead cheap.
How old is your boat, mine is 1986,

IVECO

My Iveco Afio 8041 M09 is has gear driven, so doesn't have a cam belt, does however have a alternator belt, which I change regularly.

Thinking about the thermostat its purpose is to regulate flow to cool the engine to a specified temperature, that temperature would be an optimum for combustion not reliant on atmospheric or sea temperature.

My engine doesn't have glow plugs.

My engine is 8 years old the boat is 1995.

You have not said what part it is, I have rebuilt 2 of these engines now so know them pretty well.

What I wanted to do was fit a new cambelt. But I also wanted to fit a couple of new cambelt rollers as I imagine they had never been changed in 20 years. The snag is that when I tried to order the parts from my local Iveco dealer the top roller bearing which comes complete with a bracket is at a different angle than the one on (although it fits) but the the lower bearing is totally different. Of course when my boat engine was made people did not change cam belts and roller bearings like they do now. But for peace of mind I still need to buy a new lower roller bearing although the original one is working perfectly.

Re: IVECO

Which model engine do you have? - How many hours and how old is your engine?

Hello, I receantly purchased a 40ft Dutch motor sailer which is fitted with the fiat Afio 804am 4cylinder Diesel.
Despite engine runs well like clockwork, we had noticed on our 10 hr trip motoring her back there was a slight amount of water being pushed back out th header tank on the cooling system.
We suspected head gasket so stripped th head found head gasket to be poor state. But block and head perfect now we’re ready to refit the head I’ve realised that in cannot find cyclinder head torque settings ?
Which is the only things no holding me up at thall moment I can see on your discussions you may be the person who no’s ...
I was wondering if I could trouble you for the information? I’d be very greatful thankyou arron:encouragement::encouragement:
