Had a call from Hythe Marina today to say that they noticed that my boat was sitting rather low in the water at the stern and that they had been aboard to check things out. The typically helpful member of staff told me where he had checked and when I suggested another bilge compartment that he may have missed he went back down to the boat and checked her again and then called me back to say all is well and we are not sinking.

As we are not able to go down this weekend this thoughtful gesture has saved me a journey and worry.

The lowness in the water seems to be due to my rather full holding tank which as many will know is another story.......

It is nice to know that true customer care is alive and well in Hythe.

Just set me wondering as to whether this is typical?

Nick

Nick,

Port Solent are very good on security will not let anyone on the pontoon unless they speak to the owner 1st, that filled me with some confidence... However when you go into the office and ask for anything, I could swear I have had a temporary outbreak of leprosy ... or it could be i am repulsive and have a serious body odour problem?

Any how of to the doctors now for health and mirror check to see if it's me, or the other possability that they are bloody rude...

Steve

Come join us at Hythe where all staff are polite and attentive - they kindly ignore my more repulsive features and habbits....so you too should be OK

Only complaint I have is that the pump out has died and is not being replaced forcing me to carry around my fermenting pooh tank with its contents being aged in alluminum in time for summer.

massive hold tank

Wow, holding tank is making it look sinking to guy in marina office. What have you got in there...... no dont answer that. Re the non availalbe pump out facility, can't you just go out to sea and dump the whole lot (if you'll pardon the expression)? Let us all know the lat long of this event, so we can keep upwind

Re: massive hold tank

Nick,

Not too long ago a new bertholder to Hythe wanted to have some local tuition, having spent most of his time on a major river. He employed the services of a well known instructor, and together they set off for Lymington. Halfway down the Solent, the instructor noticed that the saloon carpet was becoming wet (it was rather choppy with a fair bit of spray flying). Not wishing to alarm his pupil, he went down below to quietly investigate the problem, which was becoming worse. lifting the floor, he found that the bilges were full of water - obviously a rather serious ingress of water. He was about to dip his finger in the contents to see if it was sea or fresh water, when he noticed the liquid was suspiciously blue!! You are probably ahead of me, but the very full holding tank, unable to take the weight of the contents caused by thepounding had split, emptying some 40 galls of you know what into the "bowels" (sorry) of the boat. Don't leave it too long before emptying it!!

Re: massive hold tank

Do you really have to bring it with you next weekend

Perhaps a red flag would be in order, hazardous material on board and all that !

On the subject of marina service, I had a leak after a failed driveshaft and the Port Solent staff were excellent and agreed to check the boat regularly through the night and phoned me the next day to report all was well

Are you sure that's a story? Nick2's boat is also in Hythe. Sounds more like a premonition to me.......

Have you noticed that every time you go down to the boat, you have a different neighbour?

Maybe they are taking turns to moor alongside and, when you're not looking, they pump their holding tanks into that of the New Boy On The Block. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
