Is this a legal ensign for a British registered ship?

Yes!
James the first of England was also James the sixth of Scotland, so actually Scotland took over England... which means that really we are all now Scottish!

One day we might give England back to the English /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

until then we will let the English think that they run it all as they are less trouble that way...

(note to self - not being terribly subtle at present with the old politicians...)

Aye but only because the illegitimate, usurping Elizabeth was barren. Mary Q of S was the rightful monarch and her son finally got the job. Then the English again ignored rights of succession, killed off one king, appointed a Dutchman and ended up with a crowd of Germans (and Greeks).

Pity Charlie stopped at Derby - it could have been all so different.

2/3rds of Scots, the sensible ones, don't want independence anyway.

As a Scot, I voted AGAINST having that silly house of hot air generation in Edinburgh. I'm also AGAINST being part of Europe.

We now have MP's, MSP's, & MEP's, and they all need staff, (un)civil servants, offices Etc., Etc.

What the F*** for?

We are FAR, FAR to over-governed. How much is it all costing? What's the benefit for me?

Sorry, but as far as I can see, we'd be better off just as the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Don't quite follow your logic there. If Scotland leaves the Union it will still exist, minus one member, and items such as the defence units will remain part of it with sworn allegiance to HM The Queen, her heirs and successors (that's what I swore to, anyway). They cannot stay in an independent Scotland which will be a foreign country, so they must withdraw to England, Wales and N Ireland.
Of course all this is speculation as 2/3rds of Scots, the sensible ones, don't want independence anyway.

I suggest you look up the meaning of the word "Union". If Scotland were to leave the union, then the union would no longer exist, though the other counties may well form a different union. As to the oath of allegience, UK military personel swear an allegience to the monarch and to the crown.

1.There is no reason why the queen would not retain the crown of an independent Scotland (she is already head of state in 15 other independent countries).

2. It is largely irrelevent anyway. It is very unlikely that current UK military personel would not be given the choice of which nation they served. As to military hardware: it does not have to swear allegience to anyone, so some way would have to be found to divide it fairly.

I'm not a nationalist but I can sense an attitude here that Scotland would be seen as leaving England rather than dissolving a union; all the talk about taking back what the English put in etc, when the reality is that Scotland has contributed just as much to the union. Anyway, that kind of attitude does give me some sympathy with those who want independence.
