Been at Foxs over 13 years now and live on board all year round. So thought I would let you know the following -

The noise of the 'hoover' over the other side has finally been quietened by doing it with better kit.

The scrapyard is still there but much less dust since the sprays were installed. Still the occasional loud crash as items are piled up. It's pretty full at the moment so perhaps the ship that used to collect is staying away.

There is a smell from something other than the sewage works (a bio plant sort of thing?) very occasionally which may seem like it's the poo works.

There is a faint aroma of tar from the Tarmac plant in rare south easterlies.

The yard is a working yard with 90% of relevant trades on site and others visit regularly (e.g sailmakers) and all the guys are pretty decent and helpful. They respond to potential issues pretty quickly too. There is a huge chandlery on site too. There is the yacht club which is open 7 days (10:00 - 15:00) and four nights a week (17:00 - late Fri, Sat, Sun, Tues) all year round. Also Tony's on the bridge does excellent butties (so I am told ). There is a corner shop and a Shell garage on the bridge within easy walking distance.

Security wise, you can't get into the main site other than between 07:00 and 19:00 or the car park opposite the Oyster Reach the same hours except Fri, Sat, Sun when the barrier closes at 23:00. You can get a fob for access at all other times if you are entitled to one. There are cameras dotted around the site too.

There are buses from Shotley and Manningtree that stop near the marina, which I believe stop at Ipswich Station on the way to and from the town centre. There is the Buzzabout - bookable cheap cab too.

My recent bad experiences of the Haven include huge amounts of dust from the shed to the port side after you enter the lock gate covering all the berths along there. Also the influx of around 1600 students to live in accommodation blocks means lots of noise until late at nights - especially at weekends. I must say the toilet blocks are very good though

Update -
As of 07:30 this morning, she was sitting out of the water - in the corner by the engineers department - without masts.
If you've finished what you were doing to the masts, it may be worth giving rigging a bell.

Wingdiver,
Thanks for your helpful comments. I hadn't realised taht you needed a special fob to get into the car parks if arriving very late - occassionally this does happen so I will need to watch out.

I ahve now decided to move and so will be joining you guys in April. The boat is currently out of the water at Ipswich Haven until then - a few jobs, you know the sort of list we all make and tehn only get half way through!

Regards

look forward to seeing you & your fine Fulmar.

Not for a while though, its parked next to mine on the posh new tarmac at the Haven. Another good reason to stay at the Haven !!! :)

(the tarmac that is - not being parked next to me cos I'll always be asking to borrow things I've forgotten :) )
