Stand Up David Thomas.

I need to seek your advice. My best friend an Intro 22 built in 1976 is showing signs of keel deterioration. Following blistering of the grp cowling I ripped it all away including the chicken wire, foam and wire frame and revealed a rust incrusted fin. However not much loss of actual metal from the fin.

What worries me is the flange plate was corroded. I have it under review by a marine surveyor.

My initial plan is to strenghten the flange to hull bonding using longer stainless bolts
and putting nuts on them incase the threads in the flange are weak.

What is the Spec of the bolts uses in terms of size, thread and stainless category.

Should the surveyor think it necessary the keel will be removed and the flange to fin weld bonding strenghten.

Finally How is the lead bonded to the base of the fin. There is no sign of it comming away from the fin.

May your response allow me to sail with confidence in the future

Kind regards
