Insurance for the Atlantic circuit

For many years we used WG Yachts as a broker. Excellent service.

For our first circuit, the insurers required us to take a third hand For the ocean crossings. Second time they were content with myself and my wife.

Hope your trip goes well!

I would recommend Admiral Marine, which I have used for several years. Haven’t had a claim fortunately, but prices seem competitive. How much will depend on the value of your boat.

I second WG Yachts, been with them for years and they have been extremely helpful (including making a claim).

Pantaneus for us. They will pro-rata the cost so you only pay Caribbean insurance whilst you are actually there. Once you get to mainland Portugal you pay the additional premium for the Atlantic part of the trip. For an Atlantic circuit it should work out cheaper than other insurers. They were happy for us to sail husband and wife but done it a few times so that might help.

We are with Pantaneus for our new boat as we are going further afield and worth speaking to them about your plans as the premiums adjust dependant upon where you are sailing with the cruising extensions they have. I also found they were one of the only ones that do not insist upon a wind steering system for crossing the Atlantic.
