Porto. Other than the desire to churn out column inches I am frankly astonished you can think this a good idea.

To permanently install an air cooled, non ignition protected device with an unofficial fuel tank bypass modification and an unofficial diy wet exhaust modification that then additionally requires pumps to cool the exhaust together with associated temp warning for when the water fails ( which we know happens ) and fans to cool and vent the area ( remember the inboard will be shifting air making the compartment self venting after start ) is simply madness.

The op may make custom cars. I am sure he is good at it. However you simply cannot get away from the facts of the above and that the whole thing was never designed or built to a standard ( £900 is not high end ) to be installed in a confined space where the consequences of failure are death.

Yes they are. The whole exhaust system is water cooled including the manifold, either by coolant of by sea water injection of the pipe work. There is also the ignition protection system for use in petrol boats and the safety shut down systems for no sea water flow, exhaust over temperature etc.
 
I have worked on many American boats with a big pair of V8 petrols , mounted next to them a Kohler petrol genset all fed from the boats main fuel tank .

Never said it’s a good idea just it’s do able in this particular set of circumstances.
Arn‘t they ignition protected anyhow ? If not then that needs sorting obviously. And insurance approval mod hurdle .

Judging each proposal individually on its merits or not as the case may be .

Don’t i deserve a star for being patient and NOT rude to the new member …..some upside :unsure:

This whole debate about using suitcase generators in the marine environment never goes away. And ten months or ten years from now Joe Schmoe could use this as a reference. And it would be remiss of us not to warn, in the strongest of terms, that this is not recommended. And that people have died doing so.
But I accept that the OP may have the qualifications and experience to successfully pull it off.
A note to Porto, would you promote DIY surgery as vigorously ??‍♂️??

Being an electrical engineer and a diesel engineer , does not make you an inventor of petrol marine generators.
 
The anti social element of suitcase generators should also be mentioned. An exhaust exiting through the hull or the generator placed on the swim may be desirable for the user, but a nuisance to those around you.

no different than the boat engine running , if a water-cooled manifold , then its the same . thanks
 
im a scuba instructor , 99% of the time me and the boat will be out at sea . I cant see anyone bothering us if between dives I have either running to warm up lunch or boil a kettle from the generator or the engine
 
no its just for fun , me and a friend , and family trips , thats all , I do have a 6.8mt ( I think ) rib in Tenerife we use for commercial use and has the licences in place for this , but as im in the uk for now I have this for fun
