So, I have twin VP D3 220 engines coupled with their respective outdrives. I have a faulty sensor on the port outdrive, and when I try to start that engine, it doesnt start. The stb side has a trim of -5, but the post side has trim of 74 degrees, both outdrives are the same of course but the sensor is faulty. Would a faulty sensor prevent the engine from starting? Thank you in advance for info re this, anyone that can fix this issue will get my right kidney.

My d3 200hp had a faulty trim angle sensor on the side of the stern drive, that would give random angle readings. When it thought the drive was up engine would not start. Sounds like you have similar fault.

You might get it sorted short term by doing a trim calibration, although as these sensors are on the outside it might already be too far gone and a calibration simply has no effect

But you should also be able to override a false trim reading and start the engine. Do you have ignition keys or a start/stop button panel?

Let me know and I’ll look up the procedure for this
