Do you know. There's a thing.
All I get is barristers from Nigeria, invitations to steam railways, various events, contract hire cars, Dell computers, etc etc.
I did get a 4" more willy spam message the other day.
Mind you I do seem to get about 40 spam messages a day. UK2.net is my provider and the spam filtering doesn't seem very pro-active, even if I mark items as spam.

How do you know the forum hasn't moved already?

The Classics Forum could be hosted on a server on Mars for all we know! Its a virtual Forum so could behosted anywhere and accessed through any portal on the Internet. For those of you that are worried about privacy issues you shouldn't be on the Internet as anyone with the knowledge can work out exactly where you are when you are on line.
To remain anonymous one has to "drop off the grid", = no internet, no phone, no permanent place of residence, no bank account, utilities, credit debt cards or job (other than casual cash in hand labour).

I don't get over to the Classics forum very often...I didn't realise how exciting it can get over here. :D

That isn't the point; it is who administers the forum that matters. IPC do that at the moment, and the forum runs on web-sites owned by IPC and on machines that are controlled by IPC - even if they are (as sometimes seems likely) located on Mars!

May I point out that the new sticky topic has NOT covered issues concerning the Intellectual Property Rights of postings on the forum? Specifically, the T&Cs do not appear to allow IPC to transfer the content to another owner without specific permission of the posters - that is, an opt-in, not an opt-out?

I note that in other cases concerning Data Protection (e.g. British Telecom and Phorm) the courts and the Data Commissioner have required an opt-in mechanism, rather than an opt-out.

A more practical note; I find the existing forums convenient because a lot of useful forums are grouped together with a single sign-on, and I can visit them with only a single bookmark. I am very unlikely to visit a forum on a different web-site, and I suspect a lot of people who "add value" here will feel the same way. Attempts to spin off forums from these have met with limited success. Many people are not concerned with "Classic Boats" as such - they are concerned with techniques and ideas that might be useful for the kind of boats we are more likely to own. I am afraid that I suspect the Classic Boat forum - never a hot-bed of activity - will simply die if moved away from the fertile ground of companion forums such as Scuttlebutt, Practical Boat owners and the For Sale forum!

I agree, but I don't particularly care. It's Classic Boat's problem, not ours.

Agreed, as I've just set out in another thread.

This is entirely distinct from any Data Protection issues that may or may not exist, and which seem to be all that IPC are considering. I have a working knowledge of copyright law (as applied to software licensing) but don't know a great deal about DP.

I should also point out that I don't have a great emotional investment in the question, I just find it an interesting legal conundrum that IPC have created for themselves. And as a general principle I'd prefer it if their solution was not to simply pretend it didn't exist because the likelihood of being sued for infringement is small.

Thats right , it was a full set i swapped for a fish finder that you had in the for sale part of the forum . Just goes to show that the classic part of the forum is knitted into YBW as i saw your boat and knew i had some nav lights that would look good on it .
