I'm thinking of joining a Yacht Club...

Re: I\'m thinking of joining a Yacht Club...

Join Lymington Town Sailing Club. www.ltsc.co.uk, becuase:

- it is a very sociable and friendly club. Not snooty, no formal interviews or dress code
- has a very active cruising section, with weekly, monthly and annual meets to suit all preferences
- has a wonderful clubhouse, great view, showers, bar, meals etc
- has its own pontoon, which you can use for nowt for overnight stays, as long as you book
- well placed to visit on a day sail from Southampton or to stopover on westward departure from the Solent
- you can use the reciprical arrangements with other clubs in the Solent (this is a good reason to join any of them, not just Lymington)
- its not too expensive to be a member, in the grand scheme of things.
- they value and welcome new members. Other clubs I tried to join took 3 weeks to respond to my initial e-mail.

I am a mere mortal member, not an officer, but I am sure they would support me in posting the above.

Re: Sociability & Reciprocity

Maybe even a cheap mooring eventually. I know some members of Hardway SC and somebody told me that Marchwood SC are an OK bunch. It sounds like Lymington Town are friendly enough, I've done open meetings from there in the past and they didn't seem at all "up themselves".

Next year I'm cruising a bit further afield and a club network might be helpful.

Re: I\'m thinking of joining a Yacht Club...

Not a bl**dy chance, after you were so rude to me in another place, I've black-balled you for all West Solent YCs.

Me vindictive, not a bit.

Re: joining it to what?

your best option be to use a lathe to turn a thread on the outside of the club, and then "join" it to to a scaffold pole about 10 miles long which will mean you'll have an Offshore Yacht Club! Heehee! Alright, look i never wanted to be a member anyway..

in a word dont, been in 3 - all have been pain in the ass, its the politics that spoil it.

Reminds me of a joke (roughly translated from Russian, hope it doesn't lose too much in the process):

One girl says to the other: "You know, every day, I drive into town in the morning at the same time, and there's always the same idiot driving down the wrong side of the road, causing chaos!"

Her friend: "That's nothing - I meet hundreds of them!"

Marchwood SC

Just a point here...

My friend has lived in Marchwood for about 25 yrs, owns a business in Marchwood and empolys people from Marchwood. Seven years ago he enquired about joining
and some old duffer immediatly said' You won't get a mooring you know'.

His boat is now moored on piles about 400 yards before Marchwood SC and they don't allow use of the THEIR pontoon.

So maybe not the friendliest bunch

Re: Marchwood SC

Maybe guidance from Marx (Groucho, not Karl) is helpful:

"PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER."
