My poshe new DSC radio doesn't have an M1/M2 button like the old vhf. I know M1 is 37 becuase that's listed in the RYA book I got when I passed the exam. But there's no mention of the actual number for M2 and the new radio will only accept numbers

M2 is...

M2 is a secondary private channel for yacht club use. It's a simplex channel, on 161.425 MHz. It doesn't have an equivalent channel number in the international channel system. The supplier of your set may well be able to program it for M2 as a private channel.

What make/model is your DSC radio? It may then be possible for those of us who have the same model to specifically advise you.

I have not used these private channels (due to my location) and I believe that on the Simrad RD68 each are accessed differently - although I would need to refer to the manual to confirm this.

It certainly isn\'t channel 80...

To start with, 80 is a duplex channel, and it uses quite different frequencies.

Oh yes it is...!

Channel 80 is used by most marinas as well as 37, despite being a duplex channel. For confirmation see page 370/371 of the PBO Almanac (2003 one, this year's is on board) I think M2 (if that was what he really meant) is used for race control etc and as you say IS a private channel, I don't think though that was what he was asking?

Maybe this will help you to understand...

M2 is nothing to do with channel 80. See <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_maritimesafety/documents/page/dft_masafety_504208-34.hcsp>this link</A> for more details.

Please read my first post

<<Unless he means the second marina channel CH80?>>

I did NOT say M2 was channel 80, merely that CH80 might be what the original poster was asking about, since M2 is only used for things like race management.

Re: Please read the title of your second post

I did, it was intended to be 'pantomime humour'. If you read the content I think you will see I said the same as you. My apologies if you thought otherwise.
