Galvanising . you guys are missing a trick…get it chrome plated
Just out of interest - I am asking my pal who is Commercial Manager of Metalworks - if there are any Galvanisers around here ... I know its a long long way from OP ..
Highland Galvanisers, operations in both Cumbernauld and Inverness.If they were mine I would get them grit blasted then visually inspect and if looks OK get then Galvanizes.

An anode would not help at all. The vast majority of such corrosion takes place in air, not on the seabed. E.g. anode bolts on hulls only rust in the yard.I think hammerite is a bit pointless, but my first thought also was hit it with a hammer, if it’s ok after that then it’s ok. Maybe an anode is a better idea than painting which is only going to put paint flakes into the sea

Its really not difficult.The additional challenge with the Spade would be the removal and replacement of the lead.
