Have a VP 2003 with MS2B gearbox, the engine is seized and I now have a replacement. Wondering how much it might be worth to someone?

Hold the press, I know someone who needs a MS2B gearbox. In addition if you are willing to strip the alternator, starter, perhaps the injectos, fuel and water pump etc then you could be in for £300. So for a lump of iron it could be worth £500 for a little bit of work.

I put my old Volvo MD2B on eBay. It was broken and partially dismantled. A bloke came from Lancashire to Essex for it and gave me more money than I expected. It was also advertised on Gumtree etc and I had a lot of interest. As the previous poster said, people want them for spares.

Yes, put it on ebay - I sold a knackered BMC/Thornycroft 1.5 diesel & gearbox for about £250 about 10 yrs ago, I was honest about the condition and the engine turned up on ebay again a few weeks later - they obviously only wanted the gearbox!

It most certainly isn't 'scrap'; "...people want them for spares."

We bought a complete Yanmar 3GM30F motor in Trinidad for US$500 a couple of years ago: The deal was that the vendor got the motor to a 'shady spot in the yard', I spent about four hours stripping everything that would unbolt, whilst Lesley cleaned, oiled, wrapped and stowed the salvaged bits, then together we heaved the block and bottom-end into the metals skip before all adjourning to the bar for a few beers; everybody was a winner.
Not only have we made use of the seawater pump, starter and alternator ourselves, we've also made some very good friends by having injectors, lift-pump, starter, fuel-pipes and even something as simple as a stop-button linkage, in places off the beaten path. It's not junk, recycle.

I sold a load of bits of my VP MD1 on eBay (not auction) for more than I paid for the complete engine. I've still got quite a few bits left including the heavy castings which will have to go to the scrappy when I can figure out how to lift it into the Audi.

If you're asking me, no, I sold it for 30 or 50 quid but, surprisingly, I had to relist it several times. The exhaust mixer sold immediately although it was damaged and welded up (roughly).
Not worth going to scrappy at moment - price of scrap on its knees :disgust:
Do you still have the water-pump ?
