How do you hide an aircraft carrier?

There was a snag with a slight shaft leak - can't see that being planned, an RN bod admitted it was a bit of a pain but no big deal really on local news.

And with a British population that no longer knows or cares anything about about ships, the MoD and BAE PR flacks can get away with that. There’s hardly anybody left with practical or theoretical knowledge of shipbuilding.

It’s terminal incompetence. It wasn’t a «*slight shaft leak*»; the shaft was misaligned during construction. The TV crews following the ship filmed an intermediate bearing but were fobbed off with a tale of a lobster pot. My heart went out to the RN petty officers who had been ordered to lie to the cameras.

I couldn't help thinking there must be a better way...

Haven’t seen that, but was chatting to a retired reactor officer who was on HMS Daring on an early outing when she just shut down in the exercise area leaving puzzled engineering officers trying to contact R-R to find out how to restart her...

It may be a local joke but it doesn't make it any less offensive. In my world not stereotyping women to justify abuse is not just "PC" . Interesting that their "clients" aren't labelled in the same way.

I and whoever first came up with the phrase am not stereotyping women in any way, I certainly don't think of ' normal ' women as prostitutes - some of the people I most admire as people and professionals happen to be female.

I did not mean to cause offence by repeating it and I don't actually think I did; if you are determined to be upset by facts, as I say go and change these ladies' lives - and BTW I'd sooner shoot myself than use their services, or does that make me naughty again for discrimination and denying them my funds ?

Move on from the PC brigade , this world is getting silly and people get offended just by a wrong look , there was no offence in the first post regarding the oldest profession in the World you make out that all women are offended by offering their services for money , when awoman have their choices and this is what life should be, choices , granted there will be vulnerable women in this mix but no less than Men in the same profession

BTW the phrase "political correctness" is frequently used by people in denial about how previous/historic cultural norms are profoundly degrading to certain groups of people. Historical precedent is not a justification in itself otherwise we would still be burning witches.

This is a tad off topic, but I isn't really stereotyping all women to refer to prostitutes with a vulgar term. Unless, of course, one thinks that all women are prostitutes.

Many years ago the notorious madame of one of the biggest brothels in Edinburgh (Cynthia McPayne, as it were) was interviewed by a reporter from the Scotsman, who asked if her busiest time was when the fleet called at Leith. My dad is from Strathdon, I love Scotland having spent many a month on Harrier trials at West Freugh near Portpatrick / Stranraer with the odd foray further north and a glorious week sailing the Forth.

They won't let me have an elephant gun as jetski's would quickly become an endangered species, and I don't vote tory. Or labour.

Not getting into an argument on Studland , as mentioned on the post of Studland I do not know the area and know nothing about it , the Argument was about destroying some ones career with the BBC because he made some comments about Gin swilling Sailors which seemed to get some people in a right tizz , but as soon as you try and have a converstion a certain breed of person comes out and thinks because their older they can act like hooligans and have no respect for a persons opinion , if doing a programme and making some comments justifies trying to get some one sacked becasue you think their wrond is a sad day in this world
Again before I get too bored I do not care , nor do I know anything to do with Studland Bay, I do not know who or what a Moomba is and I have Dyslexia which makes my Grammer and spelling go funny
My Wiife is A Climate change Scientist (Dr) with many years in the proffesion and highly regarded throughout the UK But it still makes me chuckle to the old guard that know everything even though the experts tell them some thing different , bit like Brexit
Now it is ofc everyones right to be able to have a diffrence of opinion and be able to discuss in a reasonable manner like adults , and I stand by my point that a majoirty of those that have an issue with conservation and green spaces only want it for them when they visit it , but god forbid its in their back yard and interupts their life

We won't bother with all the details, but re Studland it's a fake career conservationist trying to con the public - worked on Packham, if nothing else his lack of research before spouting off was deplorable - to make it his private beach, we boat owners want it kept open as a rare safe anchorage along that stretch, as well as a nice place for everyone to visit from land or sea.

I used to work with man who has Asperger's Syndome, which Chris Packham also claims. One of my colleague's interesting traits was a tendency to believe without question and defend with vehemence the first opinion he was given on any subject. So if he met someone who told him that yachts were threatening seahorses at Studland he would for ever after believe that yachts were threatening seahorses at Studland and no evidence to the contrary would make him change his mind. It was very frustrating (he believed that French euros were different from German euros) but occasionally useful ... if you got to him first.
