Hello ybw'ers,

I 've been lurking for some time here and I am very new to sailing (I have done a two out of my three Competent Crew weekends) but I am really keen to learn and have enjoyed every moment of it so far!

As I said, my sailing experience is limited but I understand the "textbook" basics about tides and planning (I knew that my maths would come in handy at some points in my life!)

I am based in Poole (most of the time) and I was wondering if any of you could help?

Can anyone recommend a club in or around Poole that has a cruiser bias and a friendly membership willing to teach a new sailor? Alternatively, are there any of you looking for crew for the odd sail and have the patience to show me the ropes (sorry for the pun)? I m a nice bloke and of course I ll cover any costs necessary

Many thanks

Dimi

Go to Poole Yacht Club or Parkstone Yacht Club and put a card up crew available on their notice board. Find out what nights are cruiser racing nights and try to go there for an after race drink and make your availability known.

If you get enough experience this summer to want to try a X channel go to the Cherbourg 2009 scuttlebutt cruise under section Forum Members Events and ask for a spare berth.

Good Luck but remember thet warning that sailing can seriously damage your wealth!!
