We are trying to get a message to the owner of the yacht Pandora which has been left in the mud in Nidri. The boat is inbetween the Armonia Hotel pontoon and Iris Hotel (sailing holidays) pontoon and is listing quite badly. Not sure she will move any further but better to be safe than sorry.

Surely he has someone doing guardianage on the boat? Possibly not.....

Some of the boats left afloat without supervision are a menace to others. We were bashed by one such boat in Vliho bay last winter when it dragged it's anchor. We have come out for this winter as these unsupervised boats are a real risk.

Would not think that the old tub would be worth guardianage, it was driven onto the mud a few weeks ago the owner ? made a sloppy job of mooring her and she was drifting about, the Southerly gales last week drove her onshore and she is now sitting on the mud and listing a bit owing to the low water that we have at the moment, she should sit up again when the level rises but it will probably be a bit of a problem shifting her in the Spring, but looking at her she could well be in her final resting place like a lot of the wrecks in the area.

One of my reasons for leaving Greece, weather is perfect, the sailing is best in the med, but god do those harbours feel like the elephants' graveyard!
Worst was Trizonia, all sorts of abandoned 'projects' and not to mention the sunk ketch.
Really depressing.

Agree about Trizonia, also as it is not being maintained some of the concrete pontoons are starting to crack and parts breaking away. A pity, would make more sense to give it away to a private operator to use and maintain.

That would be common sense, so won't happen; presumably the debt is owned by some insolvent Greek bank that would rather hold onto a worthless paper asset than do something useful with it.

Trizonia was built on EU money as with a lot of the abandoned marinas. No payment was due back untill completeion.

It will now slowly but surely just fall apart.

Peter

Exactly. I have always said that Greece is an enormous money laundering pit for Brussels crooks getting percentage back-handers from the Athens crooks.

The projects were never meant to be finished.

"Ten million for the project? That will be 5 million for you and 5 million for us."

Greek marinas.

Greek marinas built with EU money were never meant to be completed. There is (was) a stage in the construction contract devised by our lords and master in Brussels, that meant that the construction company should go belly-up at that point (typically about 75% complete.)
The contractor then has more capital than he started with.
You, you suckers, were paying for all this. Join UKIP.

Trizonia is, surprisingly, an ex-NATO base, so not part of the Greek State or paid for by the EU - you're probably correct, some of your taxes went towards it but the greatest part would have been US$.

I also believed the "Ex Nato base" story until this year, Charles. However, after a long talk with a resident it appears that the true story is that a local DID get a rather large chunk of EU dosh and legged it after the current state of "completedness" was achieved. The "Ex Nato base" story does however hold true for Porto Heli. However, this is "drifting the thread"!
