Hanked on, would you change?

Thanks everyone, looks like I have a lot to think through. I suspect I'll stay as is for this next season and save the pennies for next winter.

Does not have to go to the bow. Commonly to a point aft of the windlass/mooring cleat, usually at the point where there is a good bulkhead underneath to take the mounting point. No need for runners as the stay will only be used for single heavy weather sail. Use something like a Wichard tensioner to attach it and stow it at the mast when not needed. Then you have the full foretriangle free for your large genoa.

What is a wichard tensioner?

I looked on the Wichard Marine Hardware site and did not find one.

On the Wichard website under Stainless Steel and Babystay adjusters. The lever type is the one i was referring to - commonly used for this application.

I think that makes a lot of sense, if the mounting for the babystay is already there or easy to engineer.

It is there, but I plan to -re-engineer it anyway. I very much prefer a cutter rig for singlehanding.

The traditional approach to hanked on headsails is to keep the next size down hanked on under the working sail and stuffed in a bag lashed to the pulpit.
