What an Arrogant T***er

Can't believe the response from the harbour masters office

They really might want to consider training people in communication, PR and customer service as well as how to raft etc.

I think everyone has made all the relevant points re learning from the feedback so +1 to all of that.

I hope YM will be covering this saga and asking Guernesy Harbours for an "official" response.

A few years ago i seem to remember YM did a section called Marina Spy where they reported on their real life experience of a marina - time to dust that one down and reuse??

The problem is why does he need to do this? HM knows that out of his 10 000 visitors 9 994 visitors will be returning. What is the loss, apart from this thread that he has dismissed as a yachtsmans gossip column.

"St. Peter Port does not reserve berths for anybody, regattas and rallies included, and the larger of these are discouraged during the high season. In any event, we do try to moor clubs and rallies together if at all possible for their convenience and to least inconvenience others. One man's joyful reunion or safe arrival party is sometimes annoying to others. That's life."

This is not my experience. To be specific:

Date: 8th July 2011. After leaving a marina berth and refuelling, we went to the pontoons outside the cill (not the arrival pontoon) ready for a departure just after sunrise the following day. Out came the dory and the young member of staff said that 120 boats were arriving for the Ports de la Manche, for which the pontoons had been emptied of other boats. We had no option but to move back into the marina. This rather smacks of "reserving" to me. However, I will print out this page from the thread, pop it somewhere safe and wave it at the harbour staff in the unlikely event that I go back. I wonder if it will do me any good!

I don't suppose we will hear any more from GuernseyHarbour following proof that their earlier statement contained many "inaccuracies". What a shame, a real bridge building opportunity missed.

To say that commercialisation of the harbours has been agreed in principle may be overstating it.

What has really been agreed is that there should be further investigation with a budget of £50,000.

This is a controversial issue, and I am sure that if the investigation is unduly loaded towards commercialisation it will be torn to shreds.

Yotties should note that the major issues are to do with the commercial ports rather than the marinas.
