Since moving to Peterhead my decks are getting grubby with industrial-based grime - I think. Black / darkish grime. Never got this in Banff. Any tips to clean and protect? White GRP decks. Patio magic?

I don't know Peterhead, but if you think a lot of it might be from hydrocarbons (lorry/rail/ship exhausts) try Autoglym Engine and Machine Cleaner - detergent-based, and makes short work of grey streaking on my topsides from washout of atmospheric emissions.

All this talk of Peterheid and Banff is killing me. Exiled Aberdonian down south doing missionary work with our less cultured neighbours for years.

Any chance of an emergency food parcel of rowies!! ;)

Andy
Aye. And we'll send a tub of stovies, a mealie jimmy and a haggis supper

When I was there about 10+ years ago the muck came from the offshore supply base. Mostly dust and detritus from loading and unloading the supply boats. The marina is good and sheltered but Banff won me over. The last time a train was there was in 1970, the destruction of the railways in the '60's was in my opinion a national disgrace.

What is Banff like as a stop over en route from Inverness to Peterhead (with 31ft & 1.800 draft) please. On my first trip round UK via the canal I stopped at Whitehills as I could not get accurate info for Banff
On my second trip I went straight to Peterhead as I was short of time. If Banff is an option to break the journey up I would give it a go next time. I would be going past in August. Does it get busy? On entry to Peterhead the port control told me that I might not get a berth in the marina but fortunately i did.
Thanks

Why not try Lossiemouth? We have also been into Macduff- rafted up on a fishing boat overnight - no problem. ? We spent a winter in Peterhead after coming back from Norway, don't recall it being any worse than anywhere else for dirt?

The main problem with both Banff and Lossiemouth is silting at the harbour entrance so entry at low water is not on for deepish draught boats. Once in they are both fine, well sheltered and nice towns. There are visitors berths that will cater for 31ft but it's best to book ahead in the busy season. Give Jim the HM at Banff a shout.http://banffmarina.com/contact_us.html
